Gregorich & Bauknecht Take Home Feature Wins

Multiple crashes and close finishes gave fans plenty or reason to leap out of
their seats at the Reigel Plumbing and Heating night at Marshfield Super
Speedway. Eugene Gregorich, Kyle Bauknecht, Adam Eckes and Cody Meyer all
pulled out feature race wins.
Eugene Gregorich started strong in the Super Late Model Feature. In the second
lap, he had already charged from fifth place to take second place on the
outside groove. In the next lap he flew past to steal first place from Tim
Hintz. Gregorich dominated the race until, with 17 laps to go, an
accident caused a caution. After the restart, Gregorich remained in
first but Jeff Weinfurter raced hard to take it from him. Gregorich and
Weinfurter raced nose to tail for two laps and side by side for another three
laps. It looked like Weinfurter might over take Gregorich. But then with nine
laps to go, Weinfurter spun out. After the second restart, Ben Pettis
worked his way up from fourth place to give Gregorich another challenge for
first. Pettis tried both grooves to get around Gregorich. After the white flag
flew, Gregorich and Pettis raced side by side down the front stretch. Fans
rose to their feet as they crossed the finish line nose to nose. Gregorich
just barely managed to squeak out the win. Points leader Ben Pettis had to
settle for second, Joe Krzykowski took third, Brian Back fourth and Tim Hintz
fifth. Jeff Weinfurter was the fast qualifier.
Even though Kyle Bauknecht started tenth in the Limited Late Model Feature, he
was on the hunt for the lead. With 21 laps to go, he had already taken fourth
and then third place on the outside. Brian Paszek passed Jody Benson on the
inside to take first place with 19 laps to go. Later, with 14 laps go,
Bauknecht took second and set his eyes on the lead. Four more laps and
Bauknecht and Paszek were racing nose to tail. Bauknecht tried both grooves
but Paszek was able to hold off his advances until lap 20 when Bauknecht went
through on the outside and slid in front of Paszek to take the lead. Paszek
stayed right on his tail for a lap but couldn’t keep up with Bauknecht any
longer than that. Fast qualifier Bauknecht won the race, Paszek took second,
Neil Knobock took third, points leader Jody Benson took fourth and Mike
Merriam took fifth.
Crashes dictated the pace of the 4-Cylinder Feature. In the first lap, a
three-car crash in turn one caused an oil spill on the track. After the
clean up and restart, Adam Eckes took first place on the outside with 17 laps
to go. Most of the racing was happening in the fights for second and third
place. But then a crash, which sent Chad Dietsche into the signage by turn
three, caused another caution. After the restart, Steve Hauser, who was
running in second, gave Eckes a challenge for the lead. Another crash
involving Steve Stewart and Kevin Eckes caused the third caution of the night
with six laps to go. Fans were warned that the race was approaching the time
limit, and if another caution happened the race would be called. After the
final restart, Steve Hauser was trying to get first from Adam Eckes and hold
off third place Derk Hauser. Right before the checkered flag, Derk
Hauser nosed out Steve Hauser to take second place. Adam Eckes won, Derk
Hauser took second, Steve Hauser third, Dale Louze fourth, and Jeremiah
Strauss fifth. Points leader J.J. Flick had some problems and finished towards
the back. Steve Stewart was the fast qualifier.
Cody Meyer didn’t let some rough racing unseat him from the win in the 1-Man
Cruiser Feature. After a caution and restart, Meyer took second and then first
place. Tim Dickman tried hard to take the lead from him and caused some
contact between the two. Meyer seemed ready for Dickman’s antics and held on
to first place. Later with 12 laps to go, David Knauf took second place on the
inside. Then he challenged Meyer for the lead. They were side by side for most
of the remainder of the race, but Knauf couldn’t get around Meyer. Points
leader and fast qualifier Meyer took the checkered, Knauf took second, Wayne
Dietz third, Chris Anderson fourth, and Marc Baldwin fifth.
Next Saturday is the Eve of Destruction. The program includes Bus Races,
Stunts by Rodney Feltz, Green Mamba Jet Car Burn, plus Trailer Racing, Tire
Race, Demo Derby, Double O Seven race and much more. Pits open at 3:30,
with the show starting at 7 p.m. Rain dated for Sunday, two hours
earlier. Marshfield Super Speedway is located 3.5 miles west of
Marshfield on County Road H with weekly Saturday night stock car racing April
through September. Adult grandstand admission $10.00, Students ages
10-15 yrs. $5.00 and under 10 yrs FREE with a parent. Family Ticket is
$25.00 (includes 2 adult tickets + unlimited students & children).
Everyone 16 yrs and older may sign up FREE every race night to win the 2005
Ford Mustang Pace Car to be given away on September 17th!
