Marshfield Super Speedway

Marshfield, WI, July 12, 2003 - The Bill Sherman Memorial, V&H Inc., Dental Clinic of Marshfield brought the fast time honors back to Judd Brandl in the Super Lates.  Tim Hintz was quick timer in the Supers, Eric Lokemoen in the Legends and Travis Zvolena in the 1-Man Cruisers.

The 25 lap CARQUEST Super Late Model feature started out badly for a couple of drivers.  Before a lap was completed, Wayne Mackesy's machine and Josh Bell's both had to go to the pit area for the remainder of the evening.  Mackesy's car spun to the infield on the front stretch and after the caution was out for that incident, Brian Back flew off the back straightaway after making contact with Josh Bell's car.  Back was able to return and finished the race.  Once the race started, DuWayne Davis led the first three laps.  On lap four, several cars passed Davis, Melbinger taking charge of the lead.  Melbinger led as hard chargers, Doug Drost, Rick Grunden, Judd Brandl and Dean LaPointe were in hot pursuit.  Melbinger continued to hold the lead as Jeff Weinfurter moved into the top five.  A spin involving Brandl and Weinfurter in turns three and four brought out the caution on lap 21.  Both cars were able to continue at the back of the field.  The race was restarted, but the caution was out again for Grunden as he spun in turns one and two.  He was forced to pit due to severe damage to the front of his car.  With only four laps to go, Melbinger had a tight grip on the lead.  Drost and Gary Back battle over the second spot.  Melbinger won, Back second, LaPointe edged into third, Drost fourth and Pete Kempf fifth.

The CARQUEST & Coco-Cola Super Stock feature ran green to checkered.  Don Tieman Jr. led the field for the first 11 laps of the contest.  Brian Schmutzer and Kyle Davis worked their way to the front and Schmutzer took the lead from Tieman on lap 12.  On lap 15, Davis passed Tieman for second and with three laps to go, took the lead from Schmutzer.  Davis won, Schmutzer second, Tieman third, fast timer Tim Hintz fourth and Tim Plowman fifth.

The Legends were back again tonight after not having been here for over a month.  Curt Gnatzig was the lead for the first three laps.  Elliott Weiler then held the lead for four laps.  Josh Schoenick then took over till the checkered.  Fast timer Eric Lokemoen was in third by lap nine.  Schoenick crossed the line first at the checkered, but was docked two positions for passing three wide on the inside earlier in the race.  Lokemoen was awarded the win, Elliott Weiler second, Schoenick third, Gnatzig fourth and Russ Weiler fifth.

The 1-Man Cruiser feature was led by Steve Bores for the first five laps.  Fast timer and point lead Travis Zvolena then took it from him.  Bores fought off Pat Dickman for most of the event for the second spot.  At the checkered, it was Zvolena, Dickman, Bores, Sam Sudduth and Darrell Paschel.

The winner of the Wal-Mart bicycle was Alex Halinan of Port Edwards.
