Marshfield Super Speedway

Marshfield, WI, June 21, 2003 -St. Joseph's Hospital night at the races brought us another night of great weather and great racing action.  Judd Brandl was quick again in the CARQUEST Super Lates, but he only beat out Doug Drost for the top honor by two-thousandths of a second.  Tim Hintz getting his set-up just right was fast timer in the CARQUEST & Coca-Cola Super Stocks.  2002 Track Champ, Keith Wirtz was best in the 4-Cylinders and Randy Meyer setting another fast time in the Cruisers.

Second year racer Eric Wisz led most of the caution free CARQUEST Super Late Model feature.  As Wisz led, another second year Super Late Model driver, Russ Weiler held second and rookie DuWayne Davis ran third.  Brian Back took the third spot from Davis on lap six.  Back lost the position to Jeff Weinfurter on lap ten.  Judd Brandl and Doug Drost worked their way from deep in the field towards the front.  Brandl got by Back on lap 13.  Lap 15, Weinfurter drove past Weiler for the second position, Weiler then fell back to sixth.  Drost passed Back on lap 17.  Lap 18, Weinfurter and Brandl both passed leader Wisz for the first and second positions.  Drost passed Wisz a couple of laps later.  Brandl began to work on Weinfurter for the lead.  Brandl drove to the outside of Weinfurter, trying to take away his lead.  As they raced door-to-door, Brandl couldn't quite edge out in front of Weinfurter.  As they came around for the checkered, Brandl tried one last attempt to take the lead on the inside, but to no avail.  Weinfurter won, Brandl second, Drost third, Weiler fourth and Back fifth.

The CARQUEST & Coca-Cola Super Stock feature was led for the first two laps by Marv Flick.  Matt Raykowski then took the lead.  As Raykowski led the field, he got too high on the backside of the track and spun, bringing out the caution.  Brian Schmutzer, racing third at the time spun to avoid Raykowski and had to pit due to a flat tire.  When the race resumed, Keith Bohmsach was in control of the lead with Larry Schultz right behind in second.  Fast timer Tim Hintz wasted no time and had taken the third spot.  Hintz passed Schultz for second and then tried to take the lead from Bohmsach.  Bohmsach held off Hintz for the win, Hintz second, Schultz third, Cary Lyons who raced within the top five the whole feature took home fourth and rookie driver, Kyle Davis drove his way into fifth from a tenth place start.

Torey Nitzsche led the first five laps of the CWMSA 4-Cylinder feature.  Erin Schlough brought out the first caution on lap five as his car spun coming out of turn four.  Fast timer Keith Wirtz then took charge of the lead.  Doug Adams quickly moved through the field to second.  A spin involving Nitzsche and Jason Bell on the back straight brought out the second yellow.  Bell was unable to continue.  It was a green-white-checkered finish as Wirtz won, Doug Adams second, Kevin Eckes third, Robert Dalsky fourth and Randy Nitzsche fifth.

Randy Meyer led all but the first lap of the Cruiser feature.  Travis Zvolena tried to catch Meyer to challenge him for the lead, but had to pit on lap ten due to mechanical problems.  Meyer won, Steve Bores second, Nick Klimpke third, Nathan Briski fourth and Zvolena fifth.

The winner of the Wal-Mart bicycle was Cheyenne Hahn of Nekoosa.
