Marshfield Super Speedway

Marshfield, WI, June 14, 2003 - Mid-States Equip., Hydraulics, Inc., Meyer's Equip. Mfg. Corp., Nelson-Jameson night saw Judd Brandl turned quick time for the fourth week in a row here at Marshfield Super Speedway.  In the Super Stocks, Matt Raykowski set fast time this season and Travis Zvolena was fast again in the Cruisers.

Russ Weiler took the early lead of the caution free CARQUEST Super Late Model feature from his pole position start.  Weiler led the field for most of the race until he had to relinquish the lead to Rory Melbinger on lap 21.  Melbinger started deep in the field and worked his way to the front along with DuWayne Davis, Dean LaPointe, Judd Brandl and Doug Drost.  Josh Bell held second behind Weiler for six laps, then Rookie Danny Heinritz took second for the next three laps.  By then Melbinger was to the front, taking second from Heinritz and setting his sites on Weiler.  Heinritz continued to hold strong as LaPointe, Brandl and Drost worked their way into the top five.  Lapped traffic came into play on lap 18 as Melbinger was hunting down Weiler.  Lap 21 Melbinger took the lead, lap 22 Brandl took second from Weiler.  Melbinger won, dedicating his win to Mike Langsdorf, the driver injured here this past Saturday.  Brandl finished second, Weiler third, Heinritz fourth and Drost fifth.

Rookie Kyle Davis led the CARQUEST Super Stock feature and had a strong lead until the first of two cautions flew.  Rick Hetzel racing third at the time blew his engine entering turn three, taking himself and Larry Schultz who was racing on the outside of him, out of the race.  Davis held onto the lead for another lap, but couldn't hold off Tim Plowman who took the lead on lap six.  Plowman had a fight for the lead ahead of him though.  Tim Hintz was right behind him and was soon along side him trying to take that lead.  Plowman and Hintz continued to fight for the lead to the end, Plowman just barely beating him to the start finish line.  Plowman won, Hintz second, fast timer Matt Raykowski third, Don Tieman Jr. fourth and Davis fifth.

It was a full moon shootout tonight on the cycles, as Steve Kasten came from the back to overtake Cliff Eckes Jr for the win in the first heat race, which was interrupted by a two rider crash on the first lap by Brad Seavers of Junction City.  He got an ambulance ride but later returned with thankfully only an ankle injury.  Second heat winner Ricky Bretl led from the green light to checkered flag, with last race winner Jake Knetter keeping him honest about two bike lengths back.  The ten lap feature race saw Bretl and Knetter fighting over the lead, with Marshfields' Cliff Eckes Jr  in tow while back row starter Steve Kasten made his way toward the front.  Lap two saw Spencers' Woody Eckes fall exiting turn two, luckily with only damage to his leathers and pride, but his race was over.  On the restart the trio of Bretl, Knetter and Eckes continued their battle out front with no one holding a clear advantage, while Kasten thundered towards the front, getting up to fourth place as the checkers waved.  But Ricky Bretl was not to be denied as he held off Knetters last lap charge while Eckes lurked a bike length back in third ready to pounce if anyone made a mistake.

The Cruiser feature was led and won by Randy Meyer.  Travis Zvolena moved up towards the front, but had to take his car to the pits after some engine troubles.  Mike Dodson then moved into second and held onto it for the finish.  Steve Bores third, Nick Klimpke fourth and Nathan Briski fifth.

The winner of the Wal-Mart bicycle was Taylor Moon of Marshfield.
