Marshfield Super Speedway
Marshfield, WI, May 31, 2003 - Reigel Pluming & Heating/ACE Hardware night
at the races was a bit cool, but the cars were here in full force. Judd
Brandl setting the Super Late Model fast time for the third week in a
row. Super Stock driver Tim Plowman also with quick time for the third
week, Dave Keays in the Legends was fast and Mike Dodson in the Cruisers.
The 18-car field of CARQUEST Super Late Model took to the track with Wayne
Breitenfeldt leading. Breitenfeldt held on until Eugene Gregorich Jr.
passed Wayne Mackesy for second and then took the lead. Last year's
track champ Rory Melbinger who started tenth was in second by lap nine and
threatening to take the lead from Gregorich. Two time feature winner
this season Doug Drost was right behind Melbinger with fast timer Judd Brandl
next. Lap 14 the only caution of the contest flew.
When the race restarted Brandl took second from Melbinger, but Drost took
second only two laps later. Drost hungry for his third feature, passed
Gregorich for the lead on lap 21. Drost held onto the lead for the win,
Gregorich second, Brandl third, Melbinger fourth and last week's feature
winner Dean LaPointe fifth.
Twenty-three CARQUEST Super Stocks were here to race tonight. Four were
unable to start the feature due to mechanical problems. Keith Bohmsach
jumped into the lead from his outside pole starting spot. The first
yellow flew on lap seven, then again on lap eight and again on lap nine.
The last caution took out three cars, Scott Hamel, Don Tieman Jr. and Brian
Schmutzer all running in the top five were forced to take their cars to the
pits due to heavy damage. When the race resumed Bohmsach held the lead,
but Shawn Stelzer was there to take the lead at any time. Matt Raykowski
held third, Roger Stanczyk fourth and Larry Schultz fifth. Raykowski
took second from Stelzer for a couple of laps, but Stelzer came back to take
second and then raced door-to-door with Bohmsach for the lead. Stelzer
was able to take it for three laps, but at the checkered it was Bohmsach with
the win. Stelzer second, Schultz, third, Raykowski fourth and Stanczyk
fifth
The Legends were here for the second time this season. All 13 cars
started and finished the race. Herman Greinig led lap one, and Elliott
Weiler led the next 18. Mike Bula, Russ Weiler and Eric Lokemoen all
raced for the lead, but Elliott Weiler held on. A spin entering turn one
on the last lap ended the race short, on the white flag lap. Elliott
Weiler won, Lokemoen second, Josh Schoenick third, Curt Gnatzig fourth and
Bryan Cataldi fifth.
Two yellows flew after only one lap of the 1-Man Cruiser feature. Lester
Kuehn then took the lead and held on for the win. Randy Meyer held a
strong second throughout the race, but was unable to catch Kuehn for the
lead. Travis Zvolena was running third when his engine blew on the white
flag lap causing the race to end. Kuehn won, Meyer second, Mike Dodson
third, Pat Dickman fourth and Nathan Briski fifth.
The Reigel's group raced two heats and a feature with the IROC Saturns.
Dan Grimm won the first heat and Eric Zenner winning the second. The
feature event was won by Dan Grimm.
