Marshfield Super Speedway Results

Marshfield, WI, May 17, 2003 - Mother Nature gave us another great night for racing and the drivers used it to put on a great show. Judd Brandl of Arpin turned the quickest lap in the Super Late Models. Super Stock point leader Tim Plowman set fast time and Travis Zvolena had quick time in the Cruisers.

Wayne Mackesy held the lead for the first three laps of the CARQUEST Super Late Model feature. Danny Heinritz then took over for the next five. Jeff Weinfurter quickly charging through the field grabbed the lead on lap nine. Rookie driver Josh Bell held his own in the top five until lap 11 when he grazed the front wall and had to pull into the pits. Rory Melbinger then moved up to the third spot, Doug Drost fourth and fast timer Judd Brandl fifth. The first yellow came out on lap 16 when the machine of Jeremy Schulz spun out. Lap 17 the caution was out again for contact between DuWayne Davis and Dave Cabelka, both had to go to the pit area. Weinfurter went on for the win, Melbinger second, Drost third, Brandl fourth and Heinritz fifth.

The CARQUEST Super Stock feature was led by Larry Schultz, with Roger Stanczyk and Keith Bohmsach in hot pursuit. After a caution on lap eight involving Rick Hetzel and Don Tieman Jr., Bohmsach caught Schultz and took the lead. Last year's track champion Tim Hintz also flying through the field was up to third. Scott Hamel and Matt Raykowski both started deep in the field and were on their way to the front. Bohmsach won, Schultz second, Hintz third, Hamel fourth and Raykowski fifth.

The IMCA Oldtimers came back to visit us again tonight. This group has exhibition racing throughout several states. They restore old race cars and bring them back to life. The winner of the first feature was John Vassh. His machine is a 1971 Dodge Charger. It is a replica of the car Dave Marcis drover in 1974 and 1975 He has won the Vintage Stock Championship for the past two years at Lake Geneva Raceway. Second place went to Chris Loberg. He drives a 1976 Camero. He worked on this race car when he was ten years old. It was found in 1980 in a barn in Iowa. Third place was Gary Stein with his 1975 Carmero. This car held the track record at Elko Speedway (MN), for 26 years. It was also a four time track champion at Elko and track champion at Raceway Park (Shakopee, MN). The second feature was for the open wheeled cars. The win went to David Hoska. This car went through many crashes, one in which the driver was killed. The car won many races yet after that through the late 70s and early 80s. Lou Fegers grabbed second, with his 1971 midget. Fegers has raced sprints, midgets, modifieds and late models. He has raced in over five states, won several championships and is 76 years old. Third place went to Daryl Johnson. His car was homebuilt in 1965 from a mail order plan. Johnson bought the car in 1999 and repaired it to race ready.

Fast timer Travis Zvolena led the first four laps of the Cruiser feature. Rodney Feltz was back to race tonight and took the led from Zvolena on lap five. Randy Meyer came through and was able to pass Zvolena but unable to catch Feltz. Feltz won, Randy Meyer second, Zvolena third, Ken Meyer fourth and Nick Klimpke fifth.
