Record Car Counts Anticipated At Luxemburg Speedway In 2007
(Luxemburg, WI) Feb. 2 - 82 drivers along with many crew members and car
owners packed Northbrook Country Club in Luxemburg Friday as track officials
from Luxemburg Speedway outlined their plans for the upcoming 2007 season at
the third-mile, clay oval.
"Based upon the pre-paid pit stall sales and the mix of veterans and
newcomers our car counts could be bigger than ever," said track manager
Rick Goral, who already has just shy of 100 pit stalls sold. "28 out of
our top 30 drivers in the IMCA modified points are coming back while 27 out of
the top 30 IMCA stock car drivers are returning, and two who aren't are racing
in the stock cars will be running here in different classes. Throw in the new
IMCA northern sportmod class and newcomers in both our IMCA hobby stock and
sport four classes and it will make for a very interesting season."
Goral explained to the crowd that the track's mandatory muffler rule will be
strictly enforced this season. "Basically the rule will be your car must
be no louder than 100 decibels 100 feet away," said Goral. "The
mufflers must be run and we'll have exhaust pipes turned down towards the
ground, which should also help quiet the cars considerably."
Of particular interest were the eleven drivers who signed up to compete in the
IMCA northern sportmod division. "Basically it's a poor man's
modified," said Goral. "It's a much simpler and less expensive car
than our premier weekly class. We've got former mod drivers coming out of
retirement, stock car guys switching over, along with hobby stock and sport
four guys moving up and brand new rookies, too. We had 11 register at the
meeting tonight and I know of at least five or six more that are building
cars. This class will take off quickly."
The breakdown of numbers of drivers per division who signed up to compete
again in '07 were 30 IMCA stock cars, 16 modifieds, 14 hobby stocks, 11
sportmods and 11 sport fours. "What's encouraging about those numbers are
you generally get a little more than half of your weekly drivers who actually
show up at this meeting to sign up, so we're very encouraged from what we're
seeing early on."
The 2007 season will kick off Friday night, April 20 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds,
IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks, IMCA northern sportmods and sport fours
will compete weekly through Labor day weekend. An open practice session for
cars in any and all divisions will take place Friday, April 13 from 6 to 9
p.m. For more information call 920 863 8446. The track's website is www.luxemburgspeedway.com.
Luxemburg Speedway is located 15 minutes east of Green Bay off highway 54 at
