2006 Champions Honored At Luxemburg Speedway Awards Banquet
(Denmark, WI) - Jan. 27 - More than 350 drivers, fans and race officials took
part in the 2006 Luxemburg Speedway awards banquet at Beverly Gardens in
Denmark Saturday night.
In addition to nailing down the state, local and regional IMCA modified
crowns, hometown driver Benji LaCrosse sailed to his second straight track
championship. "The championship could not have been possible without the
help of my sponsors, my loyal pit crew and Art Siefert," said LaCrosse
from the podium. Siefert, a fellow competitor in the IMCA modified
class, loaned LaCrosse his car when LaCrosse's racer experienced mechanical
problems.
In addition to Luxemburg LaCrosse was the Seymour Speedway track champion. In
2006 LaCrosse finished in the top five an incredible 47 times and nailed down
12 feature wins.
LaCrosse will defend his Luxemburg title and will continue to race for the
national title in 2007 with a brand new Harris chassis at his disposal.
Pulaski's Jason Czarapata was crowned IMCA stock car champion. Czarapata
announced his intentions of moving into the IMCA modified class this season,
leaving the title chase wide open in the IMCA stock cars, which boasted the
nation's highest weekly average car count with nearly 43 drivers per night.
Algoma's Eddie "The Eagle" Anschutz secured the IMCA hobby stock
track title, and also announced his intentions of defending the track crown,
along with the Wisconsin state championship as well.
De Pere's Tim Jorgensen won 26 features at area ovals last year, helping to
secure the sport four track championship. Jorgensen will move into the IMCA
northern sportmod division, which will be making it's debut at Luxemburg
Speedway this season.
Hometown driver Freddie "Andretti" Davister was crowned champion of
the four race street stock series.
Rookie of the year honors in the IMCA modified division went to Kewaunee's
Shawn Kilgore while Zion, Illinois' Tony Schei captured those same honors in
the IMCA stock car division. Luxemburg's Chad Kaminski won the IMCA hobby
stock rookie crown while Kewaunee's Kyle Burmeister won the rookie-of-the-year
crown in the sport four class.
A total of 372 drivers in eight different divisions competed at the track
during weekly racing in the 2006 season.That field included 75 different IMCA
modified drivers and 68 different IMCA stock car drivers.
The 2007 season will kick off Friday night, April 20 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds,
IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks, IMCA northern sportmods and sport fours
will compete weekly through Labor day weekend.
