LaCrosse Charges Through Field For Luxemburg IMCA Mod Feature Win
by Joe Verdegan
(Luxemburg, WI) July 15 - After qualifying into the feature by winning a
semi-feature, hometown driver Benji LaCrosse charged from his 17th starting
spot and passed Todd Dart for the lead on lap 18 to win his second 25 lap IMCA
modified feature of the season at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
A total of 38 IMCA modifieds were on hand, along with 34 IMCA stock cars, 60
IMCA hobby stocks, 20 sport fours and seven Lady 4's. Polesitter Chad Wilcox
grabbed the lead at the drop of the green with Randy Back wrestling the top
spot away on lap two. Dart threaded his way through the field, moving from his
11th spot into second by lap 6. Dart ducked underneath Back for the lead
coming out of turn four on lap 10. Dart fought off a fast closing LaCrosse,
who charged from 17th to second by lap 16 when caution flew for a Dan
Ratajczak spin.
With nine laps remaining Dart raced door-to-door with LaCrosse, with LaCrosse
squeezing past Dart for the lead on lap 18. LaCrosse pulled away from the
field to collect his second feature win of the season. Trailing at the
checkers were Sean Jerovetz, Dart, Brian Mullen and RM Van Pay.
Pulaski's Rod Snellenberger battled a tenacious Craig Paque in the waning laps
to collect the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature. The contest, which saw just one
yellow, saw a total of six different leaders. Paque settled for second,
followed Brian Bruechert, Greg Gretz and Kyle Frederick, who sliced his way
through the pack from 19th.
Algoma's Ed Anschutz fought off a fast-closing Tony Schlei in the closing laps
to win the caution free 20 lap IMCA hobby stock feature. Schlei settled for
second at the pay window, followed by Dave De Grave, defending track champion
Keith Kickbush and Dan Davister. Bonduel's Greg Banker padded his points lead
with a victory in the 15 lap sport four feature.
Mishicot's Sue Cherney led every lap en route to her first 10 lap Lady 4
feature win.
A pair of violent rollovers occurred in the IMCA modified division. During one
of two semi-features, Dean Maurer collided with Dave Zeitler in turn two,
sending Maurer's machine into a series of barrel rolls off the track. Maurer
escaped unhurt but his racer received significant damage. During heat race
action Danny Gracyalny of De Pere escaped injury when his IMCA modified barrel
rolled off the track in turn one.
There will be no racing at the track next Friday, July 23 due to the Kewaunee
County Fair. Weekly racing will resume Friday, July 29 for Triangle
Distributing Miller Beer night. The street stocks will join the track's weekly
four divisions in their fourth appearance of the season. For more information
