Mullen Scores Second Straight Luxemburg IMCA Win
by Joe Verdegan
(Luxemburg, WI) June 17 - Seymour's Brian Mullen took the lead on a lap eleven
restart and won his second straight 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg
Speedway Friday night.
A total of 122 cars signed in, including 40 IMCA modifieds.
18-year-old rookie Dave Werbelow from Shawano swapped the lead with Dean
Maurer in the first 11 laps of the race. An Eddie Muenster spin on lap
11 tightened the field, at which time Mullen had already advanced from his
seventh starting spot up to second.
On the restart Mullen ducked underneath Werbelow to take the lead.
Mullen survived a pair of late race caution flags to capture the win.
Tim Van De Hei, Todd Dart, Benji LaCrosse and Randy LeMieux Jr. placed second
through fifth, respectively.
Kewaunee's Shawn Kilgore survived a late race caution to capture the 22 lap
IMCA stock car feature.
Corey Suchoski and Bernie Reinhardt traded the lead for the first several laps
of the contest, with Suchoski taking the lead on lap six. Brian
Bruechert and Shawn Kilgore scooted past the field using the outside lines,
advancing to first and third, respectively when the caution flew. A lap
13 yellow flew when Josh Massart and Eugene Gregorich tangled in turn
four.
When racing resumed Kilgore bolted into second and the pair ran door-to-door
for the next several laps. A Corey Suchoski spin on lap 19 set up a
three lap dash to the finish, with Kilgore holding on for the win.
Placing second through fifth were Charlie Kroll, who nipped Bruechert at the
line for third. Jeff Vlies and Jamie Colwell rounded out the top five
finishers.
Casco's Derek Moede led wire-to-wire, leading every lap en route to capturing
his first 15 lap IMCA hobby stock feature win of the season.
The contest went caution free. Moede held off a fast closing Tony Schlei
in the final laps of the contest for the win. Schlei, Jesse Kanas, Ed
Anschutz and Tom Brumlic rounded out the top five finishers.
Dan Dippel of Plymouth captured the caution free 14 lap limited late model
feature while Shawano's Hollie Welch captured her first 10 lap Lady 4 feature.
Bonduel's Greg Banker won the 15 lap sport four feature.
Next Thursday night, June 23 the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS)
will make it's annual appearance at the track for a $2,000-to-win, 40 lap
feature. IMCA style stock cars and hobby stocks along with 141 Speedway
hobbys will run without the sanction that evening.
The following night June 24 there will be no racing. Weekly Friday night
racing will resume Friday, July 1 with the US Concrete Construction/Peters
Concrete IMCA stock car special. A $750 top prize is on the line in the
IMCA stock car feature. The track's regular divisions will also be in
action. A huge fireworks display is also on tap. For more
