Luxemburg Speedway Promoters, Kewaunee County Come To Terms
by Joe Verdegan
(Luxemburg, WI) - The promoters of Luxemburg Speedway's weekly, Friday night
program and a Kewaunee county committee have agreed to terms for renting the
fairgrounds in 2005.
Late last year the Kewaunee County Promotions and Recreation Committee had
proposed a per-event rent increase of $275 per night for use of the grounds.
Track operators Lakeshore Motorsports Promotions flatly rejected the proposed
increase. On Monday, January 24 the committee backed off on it's earlier
demands and agreed to keep the rental agreement of $1,600 per evening the
same. The committee's vote was unanimous.
"We're very relieved to say the least," said track manager Rick
Goral. "Once the committee realized that as track promoters we're
already paying the highest rent in the area I think it opened their eyes a
little bit. We're confident we can work together in a cooperative effort
with our county leaders from this day forward."
Lakeshore's rental agreement also includes a $1.00 ticket surcharge on all
adult tickets. By agreeing to terms both parties avoided going to
arbitration, which county Promotions and Recreation Director Mark Kanz said
would have been a "lose-lose situation."
Goral expects to have the season schedule finalized within the next few
weeks. Among the special events already penciled in are a pair of
Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association (WDLMA) late models shows June 10 and
July 10, the fourth annual Luxemburg Legends night featuring the Wisconsin
Vintage Modified Series August 5 and five street stock specials as well.
Other touring series featuring different divisions are likely to be included
in the final schedule as well.
The season opener at the third-mile, clay oval will be Friday night, April 29
at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks and sport
fours will compete weekly. For more information call 920 863 8446.

Luxemburg Speedway is located 15 minutes east of Green Bay off highway 54 at
