Van Iten Sweeps Luxemburg IMCA Mod Action
by Joe Verdegan

(Luxemburg, WI)  July 16 - Green Bay's Eric Van Iten shook off a race long challenge from Benji LaCrosse and points leader Scott Mullen to win his first 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.  Van Iten also won his heat scoring a sweep for the evening.

A total of 36 IMCA modifieds were on hand, along with 36 IMCA stock cars, 15 IMCA hobby stocks and 16 sport fours.

De Pere's Dean Maurer grabbed the early lead at the drop of the green in the IMCA modified feature with Van Iten keeping his racer stuck to the tacky bottom groove.  Van Iten took the lead on lap three when a Jeremy Hodkiewicz spin on lap four drew an amber.

When racing resumed Van Iten and Maurer proceeded to trade the lead on three occasions over the next several laps.  By lap 10 Brad Rohloff and Mullen had joined the chase creating a five car duel for the lead.   With ten laps to go Van Iten, LaCrosse and Mullen pulled away from the field to settle the score.  Van Iten kept his racer glued to the bottom and went on to win his first feature flag of the year.  LaCrosse, Mullen, Jay Matthias and Sean Jerovetz rounded out the top five.

Kewaunee's Jeff "PePe" Vlies took the lead on a lap 14 restart and never surrendered it en route to his first 22 lap IMCA stock car feature of the season.

Derrick Bruechert and Troy DeGrave raced door-to-door for the first two circuits of the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature with Bruechert pulling away to take the lead on lap three.  The field ran nose-to-tail on Bruechert's heels, as the second-generation driver slowly began pulling away from the field at lap 12.  On lap 14 Bruechert's lead was erased when Mike Weitor spun, drawing a yellow.

On the restart Vlies ducked underneath Bruechert for the lead as Charlie Kroll went to the high side in a three wide pass.  Kyle Frederick and Troy DeGrave tangled on the backstretch drawing the second yellow.  Back under the green Vlies kept his advantage to record his first feature flag of the season.   Trailing Vlies at the line were Kroll, Jason Czarapata, Brandon Czarapata and Greg Gretz.

Zion, Illinois' Tony Schlei fought off a late race challenge from defending track champion Keith Kickbush to win his second 18 lap IMCA hobby stock feature of the season.  Kickbush, Marcus Moede, Tom Brumlic and Mark Mincheski followed.

Bonduel's Greg Banker won the 15 lap sport four feature.

There will be no racing on Friday, July 23 due to the Kewaunee County Fair.  Regular Friday night racing will resume Friday, July 30 with the Lou's of Luxemburg/McDonald's Kid's coin toss at intermission.  The street stocks will make their fourth appearance of the season.   For more information call 920 863 8446.  The track phone number is 920 845 2300.  The track's website is www.luxemburgspeedway.com.
