West Salem, WI April 28, 2007 - Andy Burgess of Fall Creek was the first
finisher of the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature at La Crosse Fairgrounds
Speedway, but was later disqualified for failing to meet the minimum ride
height of three and a half inches. That gave the win to hard charging Todd
Korish. Following his victory Korish commented Ive earned a lot of
respect this year and I still dont really consider myself one of the
veteran drivers, but we keep getting better every week. Korish and
Lamoreaux, who finished 2nd, fought hard to take the lead from Burgess, but
failed in their attempt.
Chris Skrede hit the wall on lap 9 to bring out the first caution. The big one
happened on lap 14. Multiple cars got together in turn three, and three hit
the wall. Skylar Holzhausen (18th) was the first to spin and took Jim Hagel
(23rd) and Adam Degenhardt (24th) with him. Kevin Nuttleman, coming off of a
9th place finish last week, took 3rd. Steve Holzhausen finished 4th, and Todd
Oliver finished 5th after leading the first half of the race.
The North Country Contractors Sportsmen race was won by Todd Lockington, a
first time feature winner. Lockington started 2nd and passed Randy Steinhoff
early and held the lead for the rest of the race over Ken Lewis who finished
2nd. Lewis fought hard for his first win, nearly spinning out in turn one
trying to overtake Lockington, but was unable to make the pass. The
battle for third heated up around lap 10. After a lot of pushing and shoving
Jes Tenner (3rd) was able to take the position from Larry Bolster Jr. (4th)
and Randy Steinhoff (5th).
Bill Inglett won the United Auto Supply Thuderstox race by inches over Keith
Larson. A caution was brought out early in the race by Dennis Johnson
(22nd) Johnson started second but quickly fell to the back and by lap 4
hit the wall bringing out the only caution. The top five was rounded out by
Kris Buldhaupt (3rd), Matt Inglett (4th), and Steve Owen (5th).
This week the Speedway welcomed the USST North Truck series. Andy Jirik won
the feature after passing Steve Miller (5th) for the lead on lap 5 and
fighting his way through lap traffic. A caution came out with one lap to go
after the hood came up on Roger Eagans truck in turn 2. Jirik held on to
the lead over Gary Cerny on the restart. Cerny finished 2nd. John Wood
finished 3rd and Fred Oswald came in 4th.
