Forecast Changes Rescue LaCrosse Opener
April 11, 2007
(West Salem, WI) – Weather has been the topic of discussion for the past ten
days in the Midwest, and that is what just about forced the LaCrosse
Fairgrounds Speedway officials to postpone the Saturday April 14th opening
night of the 2007 NASCAR season.
That is…. until today’s forecast for this Saturday made a turn for the
better. Thanks to global warming, or perhaps good luck, the upper
Midwestern states are going to return to normal April temperatures starting on
Saturday. “The weather forecasters had been calling for a high in the
upper 30’s and lows near 30 with a chance for a rain & snow mix on
Saturday,” commented race director Jeff Garbers. “It would have been
an easy decision to postpone the event, but now the forecast is without
precipitation and highs in the 50’s,” continued Garbers. “We have
a scheduled opening date and we are committed to the local racers and race
fans to make that happen.” The last ! time opening night was postponed
was in 1997, and it was due to extreme cold weather and intermittent snow
showers on race day.
Saturday’s races start the 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season as
Budweiser presents action from the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, North Country
Contractors Grand National Sportsmen and United Auto Supply Thunderstox.
Plus, a novelty event will be on tap to kick off the season starting at 7:15
pm. Gates open at 5:00, and qualifying starts at 5:45.
