First Practice Of 2007 Season Completed

As opening night of the 2007 season draws closer, the first open practice session of the new season has been completed.  Despite a high temperature of 27 degrees and wind chills near the single digits, many teams and fans turned out to take in the excitement and anticipation of the new season.

Over 50 cars turned out as teams broke in their cars and engines for next week's opening night.  "As cold as it was, we had a better turnout than expected, and teams stayed longer than expected," commented Race Director Jeff Garbers.  "With the practice crash that (defending Late Model Champion) Kevin Nuttleman  had on Thursday, many teams came out today to "work the bugs out" even though it was so cold," concluded Garbers after discussion with several crew chiefs.

Despite the frigid temperatures and a few small snow squalls,  several fans also turned out to see the cars, and take in the smells of race fuel and race tires as cars hot lapped.  "I just can't wait until next week," commented Dave Metcalf, a warmly dressed onlooker filled with enthusiasm.

The next event on the Speedway's calendar is another open practice on Thursday night, April 12th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Saturday April 14th starts the season as Budweiser presents the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, North Country Contractors Grand National Sportsmen, United Auto Supply Thunderstox, plus a Steel Wall Crash to kick off the night.
