Menard Continues Streak; McClintock & Snyder Also Grab Fest Wins
By: Kevin Ramsell

Sunday, October 08, 2006 (West Salem, WI) – Charlie Menard was having a rough Oktoberfest weekend.  He started out by finishing second in the Central Wisconsin Late Models race on Friday night.  Then he ran into bad luck in the ASA Late Models and the Wisconsin Late Model feature events.  But he was able to end his weekend on a high note.

Menard was able to keep his Oktoberfest win streak alive by taking home the La Crosse Late Model 50-lap feature event.

Tim Nelson was the early leader of the event with Menard starting 17th.  Nelson’s lead lasted until second generation driver, Mike Carlson, got past him for the top spot on lap 12.

Carlson looked strong in the early going but gave up the top spot on lap 26 when Gib Scharpf put his late model to the lead.  That lead only lasted a few laps as Brad Powell moved from his 15th starting position to take over the lead on lap 29.  Menard followed Powell to second.

Menard, who was hungry for a win, got on the inside of Powell going into turn three on lap 37.  Menard would open up his lead over Powell to five-car lengths as he drove to the checkered flag.  Mark Lamoreaux would come home third with Scharpf taking fourth.  Skylar Holzhausen rounded out the top five.

Tom McClintock not only captured the Midwest Super Truck victory but he was able to claim the season championship as well.

Matt Vaade claimed the early lead in the 40-lap feature event.  McClintock moved from his seventh starting position to challenge Vaade for the lead coming off of a re-start from an early caution.

McClintock would take over the top spot on lap 4 and would hold off Vaade through the remainder of the race.

On the last lap, Vaade was involved in a hard wreck with Tim Anderson going into turn three.  McClintock cruised to the victory with John Wood coming home in second.  Gary Cerny would finish third.  Scott Bleecker would finish fourth while Kyle Taylor rebounded from an early spin to finish fifth.

Rich Snyder recovered from an early spin to claim the Modified feature.

Dale Prunty was the early leader in their 25-lap feature event.  Snyder would loop his Modified around in turn one on the second lap, sending him to the rear of the field on the re-start.

On the re-start, Tim Plummer got together with Prunty coming out of turn two causing Prunty to get a left rear flat tire.  Plummer would take over the lead.

Snyder would work his way back to the front.  With four laps to go, Snyder caught up to the rear bumper of Plummer.  As the two were coming to the white flag, Snyder would get on the outside of Plummer going into turn 3.  The two were side-by-side as they took the white flag.  Snyder would pull out to the lead as the two headed down the back stretch for the final time.

It was Snyder’s second consecutive Fest win with Plummer hanging on to second.

The 38th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will take place on Oktober 4-7, 2007.  Make your plans now to be a part of “Racing’s Family Reunion.”
