(West Salem, WI – July 29 , 2006) - Midwestern Late Model ace Steve Carlson, of West Salem, Wis. took his first Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model Feature of the 2006 Season at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.   Carlson took the lead mid-race and was able to hold off Brad Powell and Andy Burgess for the United Auto Supply night at the races win.

Saturday evening’s Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature saw a battle for the lead right off the start.  J. Herbst was the leader at the start, and he was able to maintain that lead over Todd Korish, and Steve Carlson.  However, the lead Herbst had over the field was short-lived, as Korish quickly took over the lead.  Shortly thereafter, Carlson took control and did not look back. Carlson was able gain a 10 car lead over Brad Powell as they pulled away from the pack. The race’s only caution occured with 14 laps to go when Bill Niles hit the wall coming out of corner four.  On the restart, Carlson held on to his lead over Powell and came away with his second win of the season.  The race saw a late race charge from 2nd place point challenger, Andy Burgess, who charged from mid-pack to bring the #85 Monte Carlo home in third.

For the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsmen feature, it was the division’s hottest driver this summer, Larry Bolster Jr., of Sparta, Wis., who came away with the top spot.  It was Bolster’s fourth feature win of the 2006 season, the most of any driver in the division.  Combined with point leader Jimmy Gilster mired mid-pack, and Bolster’s win, the point lead of Gilster is now just two over Bolster, and eight over Trent Boettcher.

In the United Auto Supply Thunderstox Division, Saturday evening’s feature event was a clean race, unlike last week. The A-Main feature winner was Dan Secor, who turned it around after his wreck last week, and was able to hold off Jerry Aylsworth for the win.   The Moore Brothers, Adam and Andy continue to duel for the point lead, and it’s Adam this week on top by 19 over Andy.
