(West Salem, WI June 17, 2006) - Andy Burgess, of Fall Creek, Wis.
captured the Schreck Trucking 25 Lap Feature for the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late
Models at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Burgess started outside row
three, but quickly made his way to the front and held on to win the A-Main
Event.
At the green flag, Shawn Pfaff took the early lead and had Steve Holzhausen
close on his tail. While the remainder of the pack was shuffling
positions, Holzhausen was able to keep Pfaff within reach. Burgess
meanwhile, was quickly closing in, and was able to pass Pfaff with 15 laps to
go. He was able to gain a 10 car lead over the rest of the field at one
point. Later in the race Steve Carlson was able to work his way to the front
of the pack positioning himself in 3rd behind Mark Lamoreaux. As the
finish got closer, Burgess appeared to have used up his tires, as Lamoreaux
chopped away at the margin over the last five laps. Burgess was able to
hold on and win over Lamoreaux and Carlson. I could see him coming in
my mirror, commented Burgess, I know Lamoreaux has been really, really
fast all season, and Its a good thing the race ended at 25 laps, otherwise
I would have had to deal with the 26 (referring to Lamoreauxs Yellow #26
Late Model).
The Ray Hutson Chevrolet Grand National Sportsman feature was again, one of
the best of the 2006 season. On the Start Jamie Millis narrowly took the
lead, followed by Larry Bolster Jr. Close racing in the top ten looked
like the field was lined up two by two during the parade laps.
With 7 laps to go, Randy Steinhoff lost his rear bumper cover and was black
flagged to the pits. Meanwhile, Bolster was finally able to break away from
the pack to take the lead, and maintained it until the finish, giving him a
second feature win in the last three weeks. Second position went to
Sportsman Track Record-Holder John Olson, and Trent Boettcher of LaCrescent
finished 3rd.
Dusty Pfenning took the lead at the beginning of the United Auto Supply
Thunderstox Feature. Pfenning battled with Jake Krueger for the lead
when he left the track with 8 laps to go giving the lead to Krueger, who was
able to maintain it throughout the remainder of the race. Steve Owen
later spun with 5 laps to go bring out the yellow caution. On the restart
Krueger had the lead, and was followed closely by Winchel and Joey Johnson
until the checkered flag. Krueger was later disqualified after technical
inspection, and the win then went to Rusty Winchel.
