Lamoreaux Continues Hot Streak At LaCrosse
By Megan Mullikin
(West Salem, WI June 10, 2006) - On a cool June night at LaCrosse
Fairgrounds Speedway, it was red-hot Mark Lamoreaux taking the Bob Johnson
Lubricants NASCAR feature, as he continued one of his best seasons on
record. Despite intermittent light rain throughout the entire evening,
all events were completed as scheduled.
On the Start of the Bob Johnson Lubricants / Midwest Fuels 25, Steve
Holzhausen took the lead over Jon Barrette, who followed closely to battle for
the top spot. Barrette then gained control of the lead, while Holzhausen fell
back to finish in ninth position. Todd Korish took over with 21 laps to go
followed closely by Steve Carlson. With about twelve laps to go,
Carlson got loose in turn 4, and fell back to finish in fourth. Andy
Niles slowed on the backstrech and left the track with 11 to go, showering the
track with sparks. With seven laps to go Tom Thill spun in turn 4 to bring out
the only caution of the race. After the restart, Mark Lamoreaux took the lead
from Korish and held on as he came away with his third feature win of the
season, followed by Korish and J. Herbst in third. I was chasing down
the top three, when the car got out from under me, commented Lamoreaux.
I think the car may have even brushed the wall, so I found another groove
around the track, and was able to bring it home first. In addition to
the feature win, Lamoreaux was fast qualifier in Late Model Time Trials.
The Ray Hutson Chevrolet Grand National Sportsman feature went wire-to-wire
without a caution. However, the fight for the top spot was heated
throughout the entire 15 lap event. Jimmy Gilster took the early
lead followed by Branden Berg and Dan Linnehan. All three would hold those
positions throughout the remainder of the racing. While with 12 laps to go
Chand Wehling and Jamie Millis collided, but were able to keep control of
their cars, and were able to continue racing without bringing out the yellow
flag. Although Branden Berg put the pressure on Gilster for his
second ever feature win, he was just short by one car length.
For the United Auto Supply Thunderstox, Ren Revels took the lead off the
start, but his lead was short-lived, as he spun after the first lap. The
lead then was handed to Jake Krueger for one lap, until he left the track as
well. The lead was then handed to Justin Berg who was able to hold on to
the lead for the remainder of the race, and came away with the feature win.
The race was not incident free, however. With 10 laps to go Josh Inglett
and Craig Chandler slammed into the frontstretch wall after getting tangled in
turn one. On the restart, Tom Hauser collided with another car before
slamming into the turn two wall, causing severe damage to the number 05 of
Hauser. On the restart, Berg held on to the top position followed by
Jerry Aylsworth and Chad Oehler.
For the first time at the LaCrosse Speedway, a race of area Church Pastors was
run, titled the Faster Pastor race. The event, popular with the
fans, was won by Rick Sella, of the West Salem Baptist Church, driving the
number 72 Hornet car.
The next event on tap at the Speedway is Saturday, June 17th, as Schreck
Trucking presents the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, Ray Hutson Chevrolet
Sportsman, and United Auto Supply Thunderstox action. Plus, its
kids night, and all kids 11 & under are free, and are invited to
participate in the pre-race 10,000 penny gold rush. For more information about
