Drivers Honored At Langlade County Speedway Awards Banquet

Antigo, Wisconsin; Drivers were honored at the 2004 Langlade County Speedway Awards Banquet.  The Banquet was held at Indian Springs Lodge and Conference Center in Carter.  Over 300 people attended this year’s event.  The night started out with a diner and concluded with the awards ceremony.  The drivers were also given their share of the point fund.

The awards ceremony started with a handful of thank yous going out to all the drivers, workers, and everyone that helped out at the speedway for the 2004 race season that made it a huge success.  The 2005 President, Marc Johnson, then gave a short speech and the awards ceremony began.  

Starting the awards ceremony was the Truck Division. Fourth place went to Paul Bostwick, third went to Sean Thayer, second to Mike Bostwick and the 2004 Truck Champion was Mark Arrowood.  Thayer had the most Feature Wins at nine, other Feature Winners during the season included Arrowood, Jeremy Dake, and J.P. Remington.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were then honored.  Lee Christjohn took home fourth place, Gary Kasperek third, Scott VanProoyen second and the 2004 WISSOTA Street Stock Champion was Bruce Belland.  Dan Wanta finished the year with a tenth place in points, which gave him Rookie of the Year Honors.  During the season Kasperek, Belland, VanProoyen, Christjohn, Eugene Shawano Jr., and Jeremy Wolfe all shared a spot in Victory Lane after Feature Wins.

The IMCA Stock Cars were a new weekly division in 2004.  Taking home Feature Wins in this division were, Shannon Volkman, Jeremy Christians, Larry Karcz Jr., and B.J. Giese.  Finishing fourth in the point standings was Dan Michonski, third went to Shannon Volkman, second to Jeremy Christians, and the 2004 IMCA Stock Car Track Championship went to Larry Karcz Jr.  

The IMCA Modifieds had some great racing moments in 2004 even though the track only seen three different Feature Winners.  The most wins went to Wade Schutt, second to Mike Wedelstadt and the third driver to win a feature was Eric Scribner.  Fourth place in points went to Antigo’s very own Charlie Wild, third to Julie McDermid, second to Mike Wedelstadt and the 2004 IMCA Modified Track Champion was Wade Schutt.

The WISSOTA Late Models were the next in line to receive their hardware.  The 2004 Track Championship went to Gordie Seegert, in a close second was Tim Buhler, third went to Todd Flannery, and rounding out the top four was M.J. McBride.  This division had a few more Feature Winners for the 2004 season.  Seegert, Buhler, Flannery, Luke Roffers, Troy Springborn, Tom Naeyaert, and Terry Casey all had a feature win at the Speedway in 2004.  Some of these drivers even had multiple feature wins.

Closing out the night were two special awards that were given to some very special people at the Speedway.  The first award went to the Potawatomi Community for all their support and season sponsorship at the speedway in 2004.  The second went to Al from Fire-Up Fireworks for all the hard work he did for the track in the 2004 and the beautiful fireworks display to close out the Indian Summer Classic.

The weekly race program includes WISSOTA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, WISSOTA Street Stocks, and ASCI Trucks.  Racing starts on May 13th and runs through September 2, 2004 with a break on June 10th for the Off-Road Races.
