Bud Lynn Remembered In Antigo
By Jennifer Jach
August 6, 2004; Antigo, Wisconsin; Weather Conditions were perfect for a great
night of racing action at the Langlade County Speedway. Before racing
began, there was a small remembrance ceremony for the late Bud Lynn. The
Lynn family was presented with a plaque for all the work Bud put in at the
track ten years ago. The plaque was presented by a close friend of
Bud’s, Jim Fleischman. A handful of Limited Late Models were on hand
to pay tribute to Bud Lynn, a four wide salute, which included every car and
driver signed into the pit area made their way to the track, with a moment of
silence.
The WISSOTA Late Model Feature seen Doug Blashe take the lead, M.J. McBride
second and Tim Buhler third. Buhler picked the outside line and went
around both McBride and Blashe to take over the lead. McBride took the
inside line around Blashe for second as Gordie Seegert would follow taking
over third. The caution flag flew and on the restart Buhler jumped back
into the lead with Seegert second and McBride third. Troy
Springborn would take the third spot away from McBride with only a handful of
laps to go. When the 20 laps winded down, it was Buhler taking the win,
Seegert second and Springborn third.
The IMCA Modified Feature seen a caution flag as soon as they seen the green
flag. On the second attempt to start the race, Mike Cole grabbed the
lead with John Peters second and Brad Rohloff third. Rohloff would waste
no time and move to the inside of Peters for second. Wade Schutt would
make his way to the fourth spot, then third, then second, and easily went
around Cole for the lead, Rohloff would follow, putting Cole to third.
Mike Wedelstadt took the outside line around Cole for the third
spot.
The caution flag would fly again an on the restart, Schutt took the point,
Wedelstadt second, and Rohloff third. The race would end under a green,
white, checkered situation. When the checkers fell it was Schutt taking
the win, Wedelstadt second, and Rohloff third.
Randy Rasmussen took the lead of the IMCA Stock Car Feature Event with Leslie
Slater second and Mike Brott third. B.J. Giese took the outside line
around Brott to take over third. Slater took the inside line around
Rasmussen for the lead as Shannon Volkman would move into fourth.
Volkman would pass Giese, Rasmussen and Slater to take over the lead, Slater
would hold onto second and Giese third. Volkmans lead did not last long,
as he would spin by himself coming out of turn three. Slater would
inherit the lead with Jeremy Christians making his way into second and Slater
third.
The caution flag flew and on the restart, Giese would take the point,
Christians second and Slater third. Christians moved to the bottom of
the track to pass Giese for the lead. When the checkers flew it was
Christians taking the win, Giese second and Slater third.
The WISSOTA Street Stock Feature seen Scott VanProoyen take the early lead
with Bruce Belland in a close second and Keith Raab third. Belland would
move to the inside of VanProoyen to take over the lead as Lee Christjohn would
take over the third spot from Raab. The caution flag would fly as
Belland would have a comfortable lead. On the restart, Belland grabbed
the lead, Christjohn second, and VanProoyen third. The caution flag
would once again fly and on this restart, Belland again took the point, Jeremy
Wolfe jumped to second and VanProoyen third.
VanProoyen moved to the inside of Wolfe to take over second, while they were
racing, Gary Kasperek snuck his way into the top four, and went around
VanProoyen to take over third. When the checkers flew, it was Belland
taking the win, Wolfe second, and Kasperek third.
The Truck Feature seen Jeremy Dake take the lead with Mike Devener second and
Leif Gunderson third. Jon Ripley would be the man on the move, taking
over the fourth, third, and then second spot, Devener would follow in third
and Gunderson fourth. J.P. Remington would take over the fourth and then
third spot that would not last long as Travis Widder would take over the
second spot with Ripley in third. The caution flag would fly an on the
restart, Dake took the point, Ripley second, and Sean Thayer jumped into the
fourth spot. Thayer would waste no time and took the inside line around
Ripley and Dake to take over the lead. Paul Bostwick took over the third
spot with a pass on Ripley.
The caution flag would fly again and on this restart, Thayer took the point,
Mark Arrowood jumped to second, and Remington held onto third. Arrowood
moved to the inside of Thayer for the lead, but Thayer was able to make it
stick on the high side. With two laps to go it was Thayer with the lead
by inches and Arrowood second. When the checkers flew, Thayer would get
a little too high and the win would go to Arrowood, Bostwick second and
Remington third.
