Springborn And VanProoyen Hot In WISSOTA Action In Antigo
By Jennifer Jach

July 9, 2004; Antigo, Wisconsin; Fans were treated to some great side-by-side racing on Friday night.  Track conditions were great and the action was non-stop.  A total of 105 cars filled the pit area on Budweiser night.  Troy Springborn took home top honors in the WISSOTA Late Model Feature.  Wade Schutt added another Feature Win to his list in the IMCA Modifieds.  Shannon Volkman returned to Victory Lane in the IMCA Stock Cars.  Scott VanProoyen lead green to checker in the WISSOTA Street Stock Feature.  The Truck Feature has only seen one winner this season, and Sean Thayer kept the streak running with a Truck Feature Win.

The WISSOTA Late Model Feature seen Curt Myers take the point with Troy Springborn second and M.J. McBride third.  Todd Flannery would take the outside line around McBride for the third spot.  Troy Springborn would not settle for second and would take the inside line around Myers for the lead as Flannery would follow, putting Myers to third.  Myers would be moved to the fourth position when Pete Parker would make an outside pass.  Springborn would be able to pull away from the rest of the field, and have a comfortable lead.  When the  twenty laps were completed, it was Springborn taking the checkered, Flannery second and Parker third.

The IMCA Modifieds seen a few caution flags before they seen some green flag racing.  When the race finally got under way it was John Peters taking the lead, Scott Williams in a close second, and Mike Knapp third.  Eric Scribner would choose the outside line around Knapp, as would Mike Wedelstadt.  Wedelstadt would again take the outside line around Scribner as Williams would make his move on Peters.  Williams would be the leader, Peters second, and Wade Schutt would make a pass on Scribner and Wedelstadt to take over third, and then second with an inside pass on Peters.  Schutt would then move to the inside of Williams to take over the lead.  Scribner would make his way back into the top three with an inside pass on Peters.

The caution flag would fly and on the restart Schutt would take the point, Scribner second and Wedelstadt third.  Wedelstadt would look to the outside of Scribner to take over the runner-up spot.  The white flag would fly and the race would end under caution when John Peter’s car would head straight for the wall, turn on its side, and burst into flames.  Peters was checked out in the ambulance, and walked away uninjured.  Schutt would take the win, Wedelstadt second and Scribner third.

The IMCA Stock Car feature seen Asa Doxtator take the lead with Randy Rasmussen second and Junior Karcz third.  Karcz would waste no time in the third spot and would take over second with an inside pass on Rasmussen.  Karcz would not settle for second and  would look to the outside of Doxtator to take over the lead.  Shannon Volkman would take over the third spot with a pass on Rasmussen.  Karcz would not be able to hold onto the lead as Doxtator would take it over.

Volkman would then stick his nose to the inside of Karcz and would take over the second spot.  Volkman would then take over the lead with an inside pass on Doxtator, and Karcz would follow putting Doxtator to third.  Kevin Lamberies would take over the third spot with a pass on Doxtator as the caution flag would fly.  On the restart, Volkman would remain in the lead, Karcz second and Lamberies third.  Lamberies would make the pass for second on the white flag lap.  When the checkers flew it was Volkman taking the win, Lamberies second, and Karcz third.

When the green flag dropped for the WISSOTA Street Stocks it was VanProoyen taking the point, Bruce Belland second, and Jason Bandt third.  Eugene Shawano went to the outside of Bandt for the third spot.  Dennis LaCrosse would use the outside line around Bandt as the tip five cars would be running nose to tail.  LaCrosse would take the inside line around Shawano for third as Gary Kasperek would take fourth, moving around Shawano.  Belland would take the inside line around VanProoyen, but VanProoyen would hold strong on the outside.  For the next two laps, Belland and VanProoyen would run wheel to wheel.  VanProoyen would be able to pull ahead on the backstretch, and lead for the remainder of the event.  When the laps winded down, it was VanProoyen taking the checkered first, Belland second, and LaCrosse rounding out the top three.

The Truck Feature seen a green and then yellow flag for the start of their race.  When the race was started it was John Ripley taking the lead, Bob Ney second and Travis Widder third.  The caution flag would again fly and on the restart Ripley would once again take the lead, Mark Arrowood second and Ney third.  Arrowood would take the outside line around Ripley for the lead, as Sean Thayer would work his way around Ney for the third and then to the inside of Ripley for the runner up spot.  Ney would take the inside line around Ripley for the third spot as Thayer would look to the outside of Arrowood for the lead.  The laps would wind down and it would be Thayer taking the win, Arrowood second, and Ripley third.
