Sean Thayer Undefeated in ASCI Truck Features
By Jennifer Jach

July 2, 2004; Antigo, Wisconsin; The beginning of the fourth of July weekend started in Antigo on Friday night.  The grandstands were standing room only and the pits were filled as well on Fire-up Smokeshop and Fireworks night. Tim Buhler was the winner of the WISSOTA Late Model Feature.  Mike Wedelstadt made a last lap pass to win the IMCA Modified Feature, and Larry Karcz Jr. fought his way to the front of the IMCA Stock Car Feature.  Gary Kasperek took the checkers in the WISSOTA Street Stock Feature, and Sean Thayer remains undefeated in the ASCI Truck Feature Events.

The WISSOTA Late Model Feature seen M.J. McBride take the green flag first with Doug Blashe second and Nick Anvelink third.  Blashe would take the inside line around McBride for the lead but he could not make it work.  The caution flag would make an appearance and on the restart McBride would take the point with Blashe second and Flannery third.  Flannery would take the outside line around Blashe for the second spot, as Buhler would take the inside line around Blashe for the third spot.

McBride would pull away from the field a little more each lap.  Buhler would take the inside line around Flannery to take over the runner up spot, and would gradually real in the leader of McBride.  Buhler was able to pull up to the backside of McBride and would follow a few laps before making his move to the inside of McBride.  The caution flag would fly but this time it would be green, white checkered.  Buhler would take the point, second to Flannery and third to McBride, they would also end this way when the checkers flew.

The Modified Feature started with Craig Bartz taking the lead, Dave Diemel second and Jerry Muenster third.  Scott Williams would nudge to the inside of Muenster for the third spot.  The caution flag would almost immediately fly and on the restart, Bartz would take the lead with Diemel second and Joe Haferkorn third.  The caution flag would fly again and on this restart Bartz would take the point, Diemel second and Tom Haferkorn third.  Mike Wedelstadt would take the outside line around Haferkorn, and then the outside line around Diemel to take over the second spot.  When the white flag flew, Wedelstadt made his move on Bartz.  When they came around for the checkered it was Wedelstadt taking the win with Bartz second and Diemel third.

Jeremy Thiex grabbed the lead of the IMCA Stock Car Feature event with Greg Gutt second and Brian Karcz third.  Gutt would take the inside line around Thiex for the lead, as Larry Karcz Jr. would take the inside line around Brian Karcz and Thiex to take over the second spot.  The caution flag would fly and on the restart Thiex would take the point with Gutt second and Troy Jerovtz third.  Gutt would again take the inside line around Thiex for the lead, and Karcz would follow.

The caution flag made another appearance and on this restart Gutt would take the point, Karcz second and Thiex third.  Dan Michonski would take third away from Thiex with an inside pass.  Karcz would take the inside line around Gutt to take over the lead.  Dan Michonski would follow after going four wide in turns three and four.  When they crossed the start finish line with the checkers waiving, it was Karcz first, Michonski second and Gutt in the third spot.

The Street Stocks seen Jeremy Wolfe take the point, Gary Kasperek second and Scott VanProoyen third.  Kasperek would take the outside line around Wolfe for the lead and VanProoyen would take over the second spot from Wolfe.  Lee Christjohn would take the inside line around Wolfe for the third spot.  That would not last long as Bruce Belland would take over the third spot with an outside pass on Christjohn.  Christjohn would almost immediately take over the third spot again with and inside pass on Belland.

The caution flag would fly and on the restart Kasperek would take the lead with VanProoyen second and Belland third.  Belland would take the outside line around VanProoyen, Christjohn would then take the inside line around VanProoyen, and Belland would make a move to the outside of Kasperek for the lead.  Kasperek would fight back on the inside of Belland and regain the lead.  When the checkers flew it was Kasperek taking the win by a nose over Belland, and Christjohn in the third spot.

The Truck Feature seen Sean Thayer take the lead with J.P. Remington second, and Mark Arrowood third.  Arrowood would take the outside line around Remington for the second spot as the caution flag flew.  On the restart, Arrowood would take the point with Thayer second but Thayer would not settle for second.  The caution flag would once again fly and on the restart Thayer would take the point with Arrowood second and Remington third.

Arrowood did not like the second spot and would move to the inside of Thayer, racing wheel to wheel for the next couple of laps.  Thayer would be able to pull ahead as the caution flag would fly again.  This restart seen Thayer take the lead with Arrowood second and Remington third.  Arrowood would slide high and loose some positions, and the chance at breaking Thayer’s winning streak.  When the checkered flag flew it was Thayer taking the win, Remington second and Bostwick third.
