Luke Roffers Win WISSOTA Late Model Feature In Antigo
By Jennifer Jach
June 4, 2004; Antigo, Wisconsin; A full pit area, a large crowd, and warm
weather was the story in Antigo on Friday night. A pit area of 21
WISSOTA Late Models, 40 IMCA Modifieds, 16 IMCA Stock Cars, 17 WISSOTA Street
Stocks, and 13 ASCI Trucks, made for great racing action on an almost
summer-like night. The WISSOTA Late Model Feature went to Luke Roffers,
Eric Scribner came home the winner of the IMCA Modified Feature, while Jeremy
Christians was the winner of the IMCA Stock Car Feature Event. Scott
VanProoyen brought the “57 Chevy” to Victory Lane in the WISSOTA Street
Stock Feature, and Sean Thayer was the winner of the ASCI Truck Feature.
The WISSOTA Late Model Feature seen Luke Roffers jump to the lead from his
pole starting position with Troy Springborn in a close second and Curt Myers
in third. Tom Naeyaert would take over the third position from Myers
with an inside pass before the caution flag would fly and then fly
again. On the second green flag, Naeyaert took the lead with Roffers
second and Springborn third. Roffers would waste no time in the second
position and would look to the inside of Naeyaert for the lead. The top
four would pull away from the rest of the field, and when the 20 laps were
completed, Roffers took the win with Naeyaert second, and Springborn third.
The IMCA Modified Feature seen Brad Rohloff jump to the lead with Dave Diemel
second, and Eric Scribner third. Scribner would take over the second
position with a pass on Diemel, as Schaal would also make a pass on Diemel,
taking over the third spot. The caution flag would fly and on the
restart Rohloff would take the point with Scribner second and Diemel
third. Wade Schutt would take the inside line around Schaal, and Diemel
to take over the third spot as the caution flag would fly once more.
When the green flag fell again it was Rohloff out front with Scribner second
and Diemel third. Scribner would take the inside line around Rohloff for
the lead, as Schutt would take over the third spot with a pass on Schaal and
Diemel. Schutt would then look to the inside of Rohloff for the second
spot. The caution flag would once again fly, and when the green would
fly once more it was Scribner taking the lead, Schutt second, and Charlie Wild
in the third position. The race would end when the next caution flag
flew. It was Scribner taking the win, Schutt second, and Wild third.
Randy Rasmussen would jump to the lead in the IMCA Stock Car Feature with Greg
Gutt second, and Jeremy Christians in the third spot. Christians would
take the inside line around Gutt, and then B.J. Giese would take the inside
line around Gutt to take over the third spot. Christians would be left
hanging on the outside of the track, and would lose a couple of
positions. Rasmussen would hold the lead with Giese second and Larry
Karcz third. The top four cars would all be nose to tail for the next
handful of laps. Giese would make an inside pass on Rasmussen but would
spin in the corner and bring out the caution flag. On the restart,
Christians would jump to the lead with Karcz second and Rassmusen third.
Brian Karcz would take over the third spot with a pass on
Rasmussen.
Larry Karcz would look to the inside of Christians for the lead, but it would
not be a permanent move as Christians would move to the inside of Karcz for
the top spot. Larry Karcz would fight back hard on the outside, and for
the next three laps, would race door to door for the lead. Christians
would eventually pull in front of Karcz for the lead. The caution flag
would fly once more and on the restart, Christians would take the lead with
Karcz second and Dan Michonski in the third spot. When the laps ran out,
it was Christians taking the win, Karcz second, and Michonski rounding out the
top three.
The WISSOTA Street Stock Division seen Gary Kasperek jump to the lead with
Scott VanProoyen nipping at his heads and Chad Wield in the third spot.
Lee Christjohn would take over the third spot with a pass on Wield. Bruce
Belland would take over fourth from Wield and then third from Christjohn.
The caution flag was shown and on the restart, Kasparek would take the lead
with VanProoyen second, and Belland third. Kasperek would look to the
outside of VanProoyen but would be hung to dry on the outside, and Christjohn
would take over the runner up spot. When the laps winded down, it was
VanProoyen taking the win, Christjohn second, and Kasparek third.
Jeremy Dake took the green flag first in the Truck Feature Event, followed by
Jeff Becker, and Forrest Crandall. Travis Widder would move the front with
Jeff Becker second, and Forrest Crandall third after a hard battle on the
backstretch. Thayer would move to the outside of Crandall and then
Becker to take over the second spot. Thayer would then take the outside
line around Widder for the lead. Mark Arrowood would move to the third
spot with a pass on Becker, and then to the second position, as Thayer would
pull away from the field. When the checkers flew it was Thayer taking
the win with Arrowood second, and Becker third.
Racing will resume next Friday night. Racing begins at 7:30. The
regular show includes, WISSOTA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars,
