Chesmore Claims 50 Lapper At Jefferson Speedway
by Larry & Jeanne Starr
July 17, Jefferson WI -- Dan Chesmore of Janesville outdistanced the field, to
claim top honors in the Kearns Motor Car Company 50. Starting
from the inside of row 6, Chesmore headed toward the front as Chad Reimer
claimed the early lead. Reimer guided the way for 32 laps, as Chesmore
made his way through traffic. Chesmore motored past Ron Bishofberger,
for 2nd, on lap 31, closing with Reimer. Chesmore claimed the point on
lap 33, showing the way to the checkers. At the stripe it was Chesmore
for the win, followed by Reimer, Tim Noble, Ron Bishofberger and Scott
Nottestad.
In International action Brent Nottestad of Deerfield came from a ninth place
start to win the 20 lap feature. Joe Cross took the lead at the green
flag, running at the point for 4 laps, before being overtaken by Nottestad.
From lap 5 to the finish it was Nottestad at the point, with Steve Allman
keeping the pressure on, from the 2nd spot. As they took the checkers it
was Nottestad for the win, followed by Allman, Alan Petrie, Chris Nelson and
Scotty Hoeft.
In Sportsman division action Chris Schoonover of Janesville was first at the
finish, in the 30 lap main. Starting from the outside of the front row
Schoonover jumped to the early lead, guiding the field to the checkered
flag. Kyle Taylor kept the pressure high, in the early going, before
surrendering 2nd to Bret Schmidt. Trent Erdman moved up, to join the
battle for the top spot on lap 25, working his way under Schmidt, as Schmidt
challenged Schoonover. At the finish it was Schoonover followed by
Erdman, Schmidt, Luke Padfield, Ryan Goldade, Taylor and Noel Ramge.
Schoonover failed the post-race technical inspection, handing the win to Fort
Atkinsons Erdman.
In Hobby Stock action, Rick Kehoe of Jefferson placed his mark in the win
column, in the 20 lap feature. Starting 10th in the field, Kehoe started
his trek to the checkered, as Bryon Grassl claimed the early lead. Kehoe
drove to the second spot, on lap 7, setting his sights on Grassl.
Catching Grassl on lap 11, Kehoe moved to the inside, and made the winning
pass on lap 13. As they flew past the checkered flag it was Kehoe for
the win, followed by Grassl, Johnny Robinson, Eaan Carson and Dennis Smith.
In Bandit action John Remsik of Watertown claimed top honors in the 18 lap
feature. Starting 7th in the field, Remsik watched as Travis Schneeberg
drove to the early lead. Schneeberg surrendered the point, to Kyle
Stark, on lap 2, with Stark handing it back to Schneeberg, on lap 6.
Stark reclaimed the point on lap 7, with Remsik up to the 4th spot.
Remsik motored into the 2nd spot on lap 9, and past Stark on lap 10. The
race was red flagged, at the end of lap 10, when a pair of 42 cars tangled on
the front stretch, sending the current point leader Bill Sweeney on his side
in the infield. On the restart it was Remsik at the point, guiding the
way to the checkered flag. At the finish it was Remsik for the win,
followed by Troy Yohn, Stark, Schneeberg and Brandon Kozak.
During intermission Johnny Danger of WJJO claimed the win, in the WJJO DJ
Grudge Match.
With 149 cars on hand, and 144 qualifying, it was a long night at Jefferson
Speedway, but the large crowd was treated to a great night of racing action.
Next week Jefferson Speedway hosts the Blackhawk 50, with a 50 lap
Late Model feature and a full racing program, in all divisions. Also on
tap is the Trailer Race of Doom, and the Bandits will be racing.
Gates open at 3:00PM, with qualifying at 5:00PM and racing at 7:00PM sharp.
Jefferson Speedway is half way between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin, on
highway 18.
