WCS Jefferson Show Attracts Sponsorship Support

JEFFERSON, WI. (May 29, 2004) -- The Jefferson 100, the first ever Wisconsin Challenge Series event at Jefferson Speedway, has undergone a name change.

The program will now be presented as the First Supply 100 presented by The Bold Look of Kohler.  First Supply Group is a leading main channel wholesale supplier in the upper Midwest, providing the industrial customers and building contractors with an extensive line of products and services.  First Supply has been involved in various Motorsports sponsorship programs throughout southern Wisconsin and their support is a welcome addition to the WCS events at Jefferson Speedway.

The Wisconsin Challenge Series Super Late Models will be making their first appearance on the semi-banked quarter-mile oval on Sunday Afternoon June 6th.   The race will mark the first time, since the early 1990's, that Super Late Models have appeared at the Jefferson oval.

The event should see in excess of 40 drivers attempting to make the 100 lap feature contest, which will pay $1,800 to the winner.  Preliminary events for the Super Late Models include qualifying races, which will be used to fill out the field, which can have a maximum of 23 starters.

Pit gates will open at 9:30 a.m., with practice set to begin at 10:00 a.m.  Qualifying will begin at 12:30 p.m., and the first green flag of the day will fly at 2:00 p.m.  All totaled fans can expect to witness nearly 300 laps of racing throughout the course of the day.  Adult admission for the show is a fan friendly $12.

The Jefferson Speedway event is scheduled to be the third race, on the nine race schedule, this season.  The season opening show in early April at Dells Motor Speedway saw a field of over 50 cars participate in the program.  The event was won by defending series champion Erik Darnell.  The second race of the season at Columbus 151 Speedway in late April was rained out and is currently being rescheduled.

As such, the Jefferson Speedway event will be pivotal in the 2004 season point chase as both long time series regulars and new stars will be vying for the top of the point chase.  Long time regulars including Ken Reiser of Waukon, IA, Jeremy Lepak of Wausau, the Weinkauf brothers, Jason and Chris of Merrill, John Zimmerman or Markesan, Jeff Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids and others will be challenged by some of the newer teams to compete for the series title including Terry Baldry of Omro, Jeff Storm of Waterford and Jeff Van Oudenhoven of Kimbery.

For racers the show is a cost cutting two-new tire program.    The left front tire must be a used marked and branded Hoosier 3035, available from over a half-dozen area tracks as well as WCS series competition.   The car must also have one other marked and branded used tire that must have been used previously in WCS competition.   This cost cutting effort has saved racers thousands of dollars each season in WCS competition making participation in a WCS event an affordable proposition for Super Late Model competitors.

In addition to the WCS Super Late Models, Jefferson Speedway's Sportsman, Hobby Stock and Bandit divisions will compete, in a full racing program.
