IRA Sprints Invade Wilmot This Saturday
Wilmot, WI The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints make their first of
four visits to the Wilmot Speedway this coming Saturday night, May 19th.
Wilmot has been a long time playground for IRA since its' inception back in
1960. Defending IRA Champion Travis Whitney is currently tied for the IRA
points lead with veteran IRA campaigner Steve Meyer leading into the Wilmot
event. Meyer picked up an IRA win at Wilmot in 2005 while Whitney is looking
for his first first career visit to Wilmot's victory lane.
A large field of cars is expected at Wilmot, for this Saturday's Wayne Daun
Memorial, as Wilmot IRA shows have traditionally drawn some of the largest
single day 410 winged sprint field's anywhere in the country. Some of the
other top contender's expected to compete for the win include past 2-time IRA
Champion's Scotty Neitzel and Kim Mock, plus 2002 IRA King John Haeni, and
1999 IRA Champ Donny Goeden. Scott Young, Mike Reinke, Scott Biertzer, Mike
Kertscher, Bill Warren, and cousins Dave and Scott Uttech. Some very strong
local talent with a shot at victory lane include three of the winningest
driver's in Wilmot Speedway history in Dave Moulis, Darrell Dodd, and Brian
Kristan. Moulis has an IRA title to his credit as well earning the honor in
1992, while the veteran Dodd picked up three IRA Championship's (1979, 1987,
1988).
Wayne Daun was the father of past IRA and Wilmot Speedway competitor Todd Daun,
who tragically fell victim to a heart attack while on the road with the IRA
