Madsen Superior In IRA Northern Nationals

Superior, WI - Kerry Madsen added his name to the winner's list of the annual Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints Northern Nationals as he dominated the 25 lap event on a very cold night at the Superior Speedway. Despite the cold, the largest speedway crowd of the season witnessed Madsen's impressive run aboard Tony Vermeer's Cool Chassis entry. Madsen pocketed $2500 for his efforts.

On the initial start, the front row tandem of Billy Balog and Tim Sernett got together resulting in Sernett taking a nasty ride down the front chute. While Sernett escaped unscathed his car was done for the night ending a very solid night.

Balog would lead John Haeni on the next try and it stuck, with Balog leading the first three circuits. Madsen challenged for the lead and took it on lap four as Balog nearly spun exiting turn two. Jake Peters also moved past Balog at that time.

Madsen and Peters pulled away slightly, putting lapped cars between themselves and third place Travis Whitney, despite a few restarts for minor cautions. Peters closed in briefly on the fleet Austrailian in lapped traffic, however Madsen took the checkered by over six car lengths. Whitney would come home third over Mike Reinke and Jerry Richert Jr.

Madsen topped the 28 car field in qualifications, with heat wins going to Kim Mock, Richert Jr, and Bill Warren. Whitney topped last year's Northern Nationals victor Scotty Neitzel in a very exciting B-main.
