Reinke Roars To Richert Win At Cedar Lake

New Richmond, WI (Sep 9, 2006):  The Jerry Richert Sr. Memorial at the Cedar Lake Speedway has traditionally provided more than a fair share of surprises and enough thrills to satisfy an out of work Hollywood stunt man.  The 6th Annual installation of the event would be no different as unexpected teams showed up, new faces asserted themselves as contenders and yet another heart stopping ending that seemed to be scripted as a movie.

Taking a break from touring on the national level, Kerry Madsen climbed back into familiar territory to pilot the T.K. Concrete #55 to the night’s quickest lap, touring the 3/8 mile high banks at Cedar Lake in just 10.943 seconds. The four heat races ran relatively unscathed with the exception of a short red when John Haeni’s #21J bicycled in the forth heat and went over.  Although not a hard roll over, the damage was enough to force him to the B-Main.  Heat race winners included Jason Johnson, Ryan Irwin, Mike Reinke and Donny Goeden.  Haeni recovered to win the B-Main which saw the red flag wave once for Duane Olson after his #16 made contact with the backstretch retaining wall and careened to the inside concrete,  rolled and came to rest on top of the inside wall.

The 4-abreast “Missing-Man” formation in honor of Jerry Richert Sr. saw none other than his son, Jerry Richert Jr., on the front row of the parade lap among the fireworks.    On the opening lap, pole sitter Donny Goeden got the jump on 2nd place starter Mike Reinke.  Exiting turn two, Reinke used the cushion to out power Goeden however, the start was called back after Dusty Zomer came to a stop in the turn two area with damage to his #1Z.  On the restart, Goeden tried to hold Reinke from repeating his initial start, but Reinke dove under Goeden in turn three, taking the lead in turn four and never looking back.  Lap five saw the red stop the racing action when Kerry Madsen took a hard ride into turn three while challenging for third.  Reinke assumed control again on the restart and by lap ten, was in lapped traffic but his effort was slowed again when the red flag came out again for Jerry Richert Jr., whose Joe Kouba owned brand new #55 took a hard ride down the backstretch.  Reinke was not about to give up his lead without a fight and by lap twenty, had once again built up a straightaway lead over second place Donny Goeden, Mark Dobmier and Kaley Gharst.  Gharst and Travis Whitney were in a heated battle for forth when Gharst slipped over the cushion in turn two.  Whitney attempted to capitalize but Gharst was able to recover and hold on to forth while Dobmier challenged for second.  Lap number twenty-eight saw action halted for the final time after Steve Myer took an end over end tumble down the front stretch which ended with his #85M upside-down, setting up a green-white-checkered finish with all five of the top cars running nose to tail.  Reinke was able to hold on for the final two laps for the win, picking up an additional $300 bonus in lap money in the process, picking up the entire $10/lap put up by Thrivent Financial.  Dobmier managed to get by Goeden for second at the line while Gharst and Whitney rounded out the top five.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series roars back into action on Saturday night, September 16th when they return to the Dodge County Fairgrounds for the 2nd annual Dick Witt Checkered Classic.  After that, it’s off to the Oshkosh Speedzone for a makeup date on Sept 22nd, followed up with a visit by the World of Outlaws to the Wilmot Speedway on Sept 23rd.  For specific race information, contact each individual track.
