"Summer Sizzler" Offers Great Weekend of Racing This Weekend

Antigo, WI:  What began as a thought has officially turned into one of the single biggest events on the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint series schedule, largely due to the huge response from the Antigo community.  The Forest County Potawatomi’s “Summer Sizzler” is the largest paying event of the season solely sanctioned by the IRA.  “This is a great event for us”, commented IRA president Steve Sinclair.  “It has really turned into something special that really allows us to showcase our talent in a larger than life atmosphere in front of a great crowd every year.  I mean, since we started four years ago, it has gotten bigger every year and always sells out.  The mood is definitely infectious as this one event is one our teams all plan for each year now.  I just can’t say enough about the folks up in Antigo and what they have done for us.”

In that spirit, the 2006 version of the “Summer Sizzler” continues to grow and offers bonus cash awards that could potentially see a driver leave Antigo with over $13,000 on Saturday.  The two-day event begins on Friday, August 4th with a preliminary show, carrying bonus money from Verne’s Kawasaki/Suzuki/Honda and Artic Cat which will pay an additional $1,000 to any driver that can win their heat race and then follow up with a feature win.  In addition, if that driver also sets the fast time for the night, Verne will throw in an additional $500 bonus, for good measure.  In addition to the bonus money available on Friday night, Gleason race Equipment will award Friday night’s Hard Charger with a new Right Rear Hoosier tire.  First and Second place finishers on Friday night are also guaranteed starters on Saturday, but will still need to run the show to qualify for their starting positions.  If circumstances force them from qualifying, they will be added as a promoter’s option for Saturday’s Main Event which will pay $300 to take the green flag.  Joining the Outlaw sprinters on Friday night will be the IMCA Sport-Mods in an unsanctioned event paying $300 to win.

On Saturday, August 5th, The Forest County Potawatomi “Summer Sizzler” will pay a guaranteed $3000, just for starters.  Add to that the bonus money again provided by Verne’s plus an additional $100 to each heat race winner courtesy of Two Angels Family Restaurant and Contract Furnishings and the winner’s check grows to a potential of $4,600.  Add to the pot a $5,000 bonus from The FATTFRO Challenge if Friday night’s winner can repeat on Saturday night, the winner could potentially walk out with up to $13,300 in cash for the weekend.  Also on hand on Saturday will Velocity Wings to award a new nose wing to an unspecified finisher in each heat race.  Pepsi of Antigo will also award each winner on Saturday night a 12-pack of Pepsi products.  Pit Stop Pizza will also be awarding a brand new bicycle to a lucky child in attendance on Saturday night.  Also on the card on Saturday night will be the traditional “Race Truck vs Street Stock Showdown” which pits the local truck division and the WISSOTA Street Stock divisions on the track as a single division in head to head competition which also pays $300 to win.

“This is definitely about the fans”, commented Antigo Stock Car Vice-President Paul Pittman.  “With the help of our event sponsor (The Forest County Potawatomi Community), we are able to keep our admission prices down quite a bit to our fans.  Considering fuel prices and everything working against racing it seems lately, it comes as a breath of fresh air.  Having the 2-Day event also means that fans do not have to travel between shows to enjoy some of the best racing that there is to offer.  Having worked with the IRA for the past 10 years, it feels good to be able to offer them something like this as well.  To anyone who has never witnessed an 800 plus horse powered car built for one purpose, speed, racing wing to wing at over 130 miles per hour on a huge half mile surface, they have got to make plans to be in Antigo this weekend!  It is truly something to witness!”   General admission for the 2-Day event is as follows:  Friday - Adults $15, Seniors and Students $10, Children 6 to 12 only $5.  On Saturday, the adult general admission ticket does rise to $20, however, fans planning on attending both nights can purchase a 2-day pass for only $30.  Prices for Students, Seniors and Children will remain the same for both nights with kids under 6 free both nights.  Pit Passes for both nights will be $25, with grandstand seating available for adults in the pit area.  All gates will open at 5pm on both nights with time trial scheduled to get under way at approximately 6:30 for the sprints both nights, with racing to follow.

Other events planned for the weekend in support of the “Summer Sizzler” include a charity golf outing at the Riverside Golf Course on Saturday with registration at 10am and all proceeds going to the Langlade County Food Bank.  A car show/autograph session is also scheduled at the Langlade County Fairgrounds on Saturday from 2 pm to 4pm allowing fans to meet the drivers, take photos and spend some time with the visiting stars.   Free camping is available at the fairgrounds with facilities available on the grounds.  For information concerning the event, call 715-572-0317 or 715-623-3584, or visit the tracks website at www.langladespeedway.com
