IRA / Knoxville 410 Shootout This Saturday
by Paul Pittman
The 8th annual IRA / Knoxville 410 Shootout at the famed Knoxville Raceway is
scheduled for this Saturday May 13th. A large contingent of IRA teams,
possibly the most ever, will be making the trek to the sprint car capital of
the world for the annual affair. The O'Reilly/Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw
Sprint Series and the Knoxville Raceway have enjoyed a tremendous working
relationship the past several years.
Both IRA and Knoxville have competed twice this year and the early point races
are tight within both groups. As both IRA and Knoxville offer respective
championship points, attendance from all serious point contenders with each
group is a must.
Donny Goeden holds a two point lead over Todd Hepfner going into the Knoxville
show with Steve Meyer, Brian Kristan, and veteran Kim Mock just a few points
back.
Bill Warren, 2-time and defending IRA Champ Scotty Neitzel, Travis Whitney,
Mike Reinke, and Scott Biertzer round out IRA's current top ten. Long time
Knoxville campaigner turned IRA point chaser John Sernett will also be on
hand, with his brother Tim piloting the second of their two-car team.
May 13th is the first of two official Knoxville appearances for the IRA, as
they will once again be part of the July 22nd Summer Classic, originally known
as the 1200 Pound Nationals. Of course IRA shuts down it's schedule for a week
in August allowing, and encouraging, its' teams to compete in the Knoxville
Nationals. Knoxville returns the favor by sending teams to IRA's Jerry Richert
Memorial IRA/Knoxville/NOSA Challenge at Cedar Lake Speedway in
September.
