The IRA Dick Witt Checkered Classic
by Paul Pittman

Beaver Dam, WI   This Saturday, September 17th, The Bumper to Bumper/United Trailers IRA Outlaw Sprint Series goes trackside at the horsepower half-mile Dodge Co. Fairgrounds (Beaver Dam, WI) for the inagural Dick Witt Checkered Classic. This event is dedicated to long time IRA official starter Dick Witt, who fell victim to a long time battle with cancer last year. The Dodge Co. facility was the last place Dick waved the flags, that being the 2004 IRA season opener.

The race is also significant as only two remain on this years IRA point calendar. 2004 series champion Scotty Neitzel holds a slim lead over Scott Young going into this event.  Ironically in IRA's two previous Dodge Co. visits, both Young and Neitzel have won respectively.  Young back in the April, and Neitzel captured the August show in front of his hometown crowd.  Young has been on fire lately, scoring three fast time awards in a row entering this weekend while Neitzel's string of top fives includes a very  impressive victory, (his forth of the season), last weekend over Chad Blonde at the Northern Nationals.

The Dodge County Fairgrounds has produced many a great IRA race over the years, and this race has the makings for another, as there are numerous points battles throughout the top fifteen.

IMCA style modifieds are also on the card with the winged/410 IRA Outlaw Sprints.  General admission for this special event is just $15 for adults and children 6 and under are free.   Racing is scheduled for a 7pm start.
