Northern Swing Defines IRA Spirit
by Paul Pittman

The annual year end swing up North for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series traditionally provides some great racing. The two events are held at the outstanding facilities of the Superior Speedway and the Cedar Lake Speedway. The IRA teams have found these two surfaces to their liking and it shows in numbers. This weekend, despite fuel prices, and budgets which have surely exceeded themselves, the IRA again proved that they indeed have the highest member supported car count in the country of any sprint series, period. 35 cars at Superior, and 44 at Cedar Lake, keep in mind that there are very few 410 sprints in this part of the country. To achieve car counts like we had it takes the strength of a sanction, and the IRA membership proved it's strength once again. For the majority of IRA teams it's a 400 mile pull. This weekend simply defines the strength of IRA as a series, and the people who participate in it, and the people who support it. Let's not forget the fact that the fans love it and the crowds are strong when IRA comes North.

Special thanks to all for making this years journey a successful one. Special thanks to both track crews who really put in a tremendous effort to provide both the racers and fans a surface which would allow the 410's to put on a true show, utilizing their power, speed, and skills.

The Northern Nationals and The Jerry Richert Memorial have fast become two of the more prestigious races on the IRA schedule.  Thanks to all for making them the success they are, the weekend after Labor Day has has become one great sprint car weekend in northwestern Wisconsin.
