IRA Heads North For Big Weekend
by Paul Pittman
One of the bigger and more prestigious weekends on the Bumper to Bumper/United
Trailers IRA Outlaw Sprint Series schedule is set to go trackside September
9-10, as the IRA heads North to two of their favorite facilities.
Friday, (Sept. 9th), it's off to the Superior Speedway and the annual Northern
Nationals. Then on Saturday, (Sept 10), it's the Jerry Richert
Memorial IRA/Knoxville/NOSA Challange at the Cedar Lake Speedway.
Last years victors, Brooke Tatnell and Terry McCarl, have moved on and are now
top ten stars on the World of Outlaw trail at the national level, leaving
victory lane wide open at this year's classics.
The IRA heads into the event with good points battles throughout the top 15,
though eyes are focused on the championship as Scotty Neitzel holds a slim
margin over Scott Young. For Neitzel, a perennial top 5 car for many
years, he hopes to keep his elite status as defending IRA Champion, and for
Young it certainly has been a break-through season as the team has been fast
all year long. Only four races remain on the IRA schedule, including
these two premier events this weekend.
Travis Whitney, who has now sat in IRA victory lane five times this year,
captured IRA's earlier Superior visit, while Wayne Johnson took the prelim and
Neitzel the big money at Cedar Lake's Masters back in June.
IRA again boasts the largest member supported car count per event of any 410
traveling series. For info on the IRA, check out their website at www.irasprints.com
