Summer Sizzler Still Building Steam

Antigo, WI:  The interest and anticipation of the biggest motorsports event to hit the North-East Wisconsin area continues to grow.  During the recent Langlade County Fair, last year’s winner Mike Reinke and fellow IRA competitor Steve Meyer had their cars on display for the fans at the fairgrounds and did a brief exhibition of speed for the packed grandstand during intermission.

Both drivers commented on how well the surface and track conditions in general were.  In fact, conditions were so good that Mike Reinke turned in the first unofficial lap under 17 seconds at the large, half mile facility.  “It didn’t feel like I was going that fast.  The track is real heavy tonight, probably a little heavier than it will be next Saturday night with all the sprint cars on it, but it should be a great show.” stated Reinke in front of a cheering crowd.

Steve Meyer, who was able to keep pace with Reinke during most of the session, echoed Reinke’s comments.  “The tracks a little heavy, but it felt real good being out there.  We just got our new motor from Competition Specialists and in fact, were still putting it in at 4:30 this afternoon.  We really appreciate coming up here and it feels good being welcomed like this by these wonderful fans up here.”

Both Meyer and Reinke met with fans and signed autographs throughout the evening by the grandstand area.  The session impressed fans so much that one fan donated another $200 to the purse.  $100 will now be allotted to the night’s “Hard Luck Award” while the other $100 will be posted for the top qualifier if a new track record is established.  Travis Whitney holds the current 1-lap track record at 17.629 seconds (122.5 mph) and was set on August 9th, 2003.

The “Summer Sizzler” will commence at 6:30 on Saturday, August 6th at the Langlade Speedway, on the north side of Antigo, WI.  Immediately following the race, all are invited behind the grandstands for a good old fashioned Antigo style party with featured musical guests, The Bulldogs.  General admission for adults is just $15.00 at the gate (Sorry, no advance sales for this show), while kids are $10.  Pit Passes for this event are $25 with pit side seating available.  Overnight camping is also available by calling 715-623-6086.  In addition, the first 500 children under 12 will receive a free “Summer Sizzler” Spirit Stick noisemaker courtesy of Contract Furnishings.

Contract Furnishings is also sponsoring the “Best Appearing Car” award for the night.  Fans will have the chance to vote for the car they feel best represents the sport and is the most overall appealing.  Other bonus awards for the “Summer Sizzler” include $250 for the night’s fastest qualifier from Two Angels Restaurant in Antigo and World of Wood, who is awarding $100 to each of the night’s sprint car heat race winners.  Vanderlop Equipment in Brillion (WI) is awarding the night’s IRA Hard Charger with $250 and Vern’s Kawasaki/Suzuki/Honda of Antigo has posted a $1000 bonus to any heat race winner that can also win the feature.  In addition, Vern’s has also posted an additional $500 to any driver that can sweep the night (fast timer, win his heat race and then win the feature).  Langlade Ford/Mercury will sponsor the Street Stock vs. Race Truck feature, which will reward the winner with $300.  Additional sponsors making the night possible include Parson’s of Antigo, Wetterau Wood Products and Antigo Machinery.  For more information, contact the track office at 715-623-3854.
