Roe Claims Triple Crown @ Powercom Park
by Paul Pittman

Beaver Dam, WI  (Jul 16, 2005):  A total of forty-six winged Outlaw cars signed in to the pits for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series portion of “The Triple Crown” at the Raceway @ Powercom Park, joining the 40 midgets and 15 mini-sprints.  With time-trials scrapped, teams were lined up based on the luck of the draw and passing points awarded through the five heat races.  Heat race winners included Darrell Dodd, Mike Kertscher, Matt Folstad, Scotty Neitzel and Joe Roe.  Todd Hepfner tied as the top point getter and was awarded the honor of drawing for the A-Main invert.  Pulling the #2 pill, Todd would start from the outside of row #2.   John Haeni and K.J. Skelton split the Twin B-Mains.

The initial start of the 30 lap A-Main was recalled as several cars got out of line approaching the green.  The subsequent restart saw Joe Roe beat Donny Goeden and Scotty Neitzel out of turn #2.  Lap #3 saw Neitzel using the top of the speedway to mount a challenge on Roe for the top spot, but Roe was up to the challenge and was able to out power Neitzel to remain at the point.  The race would go non-stop for 25 laps with Roe able to use the top and bottom seemingly at will.  Just as Neitzel was mounting another challenge on lap #25, looking ahead to traffic, the yellow flew for the damaged racecar of Scott Uttech as a result of contact between himself and Scott Young while racing for position.  Young would continue on however, heavy front suspension damage to Uttech’s #7 would force him to the pit area for the remaining five laps.  Neitzel, who blistered a tire earlier in the race, would have one final shot at Roe’s top spot on the restart, but Roe was able to hold on and score his second win of the 2005 season.  Neitzel finished second with Goeden still holding on to third at the end.  Todd Hepfner and Scott Young would follow Goeden across the line.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series will travel to the Knoxville Raceway on July 22 and 23 for the Iowa Telecom “Summer Classic”.  The series is the only sanctioning body that has been invited back to this year’s version, an event that has been compared to the Knoxville Nationals like they used to be.  The series will take the following week off in support of the World of Outlaws event in Princeton (MN) and then return to action on August 5th when the series returns to the Dodge County Fairgrounds on a special Friday night show.  The following day (August 6th) will see the series travel north to the Langlade Speedway in Antigo (WI) for the start of “The Month of Money” in the Midwest.  For complete scheduling information, please visit the IRA’s website at www.irasprints.com.
