Tatnell Sweeps Superior, Nabs Northern Nationals

Superior, WI (Sep 10, 2004): Sydney Austrailia is about as far from Superior
(WI) as you can get, but the Brooke Tatnell seems to like it there as he
outgunned a stout field of competitors to take the 5th Annual Northern
Nationals, sweeping both Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint series events at
the facility in 2004.
"This Guy Forbrook car was so good, anyone in the pits could have
driven it to victory," Tatnell said in victory lane. "The Wirtgen
guys have really given me some great equipment and it shows."
Terry McCarl aced the 35 car field in time trials with a lap of 13.052 seconds
(103.44 mph). What made the lap even more astounding was that McCarl was the
29th car out to trip the light.
The hotly contested heat races went to Scott Uttech, Scott Neitzel, Mike
Kertscher and Ricky Logan with Dave Uttech winning the B-Main.
The "A" Main got off to a rocky start with Scott Uttech going end
over end while leading when his #7's front end got air exiting turn #2. Uttech
was not hurt in the accident but was finished. Terry McCarl was the next
victim brining out the red silk when he ended on his head in turn #4. McCarl
would make quick repairs during the red to finish 5th. Once the race settled
down, Ricky Logan seemed to be on a mission to win his first IRA event of the
season, but Brooke Tatnell would thread the needle working through traffic and
finally grab the top spot after the halfway point. Tatnell would go on to win
his 3rd IRA event of teh season with Jeff Mitrisin getting by Ricky Logan on
the final corner to snag 2nd place.
