Cresco IRA Go Halted By Rain
Cresco, IA (Sept 5, 2004): The rain that was forecasted hit the speedway
sooner than expected and forced the cancellation of the annual Labor Day
Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car series event at the Cresco
Speedway.
Time trials were completed with Oskaloosa’s Jeff Mitrisin setting the
night’s quick time with a lap of 14.381 seconds. Brooke Tatnell, Mike Reinke,
Skip Jackson and Travis Whitney all followed Mitrisin with sub 15 second
laps.
Mitrisin then backed up his fast time lap by winning his heat race with Jason
Solwold won the only other heat completed.
The third heat was red flagged after Jason Johnson’s #44 climbed the
concrete wall in turn #4, slicing the underside of the car’s fuel cell
resulting in a spectacular blaze. Johnson was able to quickly escape the
burning car and watch as the Mid-West Safety team quickly extinguished the
roaring blaze. Johnson was not injured. As the car was removed from the track,
the skies opened and the rain began pelting the track surface. Cresco
officials were finally forced to make the inevitable call to cancel the
night’s activities after an exhausting attempt to salvage the racing
surface. Show points and time trial points will be awarded to
competitors.
Official Results:
TW Metal/All American Caps & Accessories Time Trials: Jeff Mitrisin (Lucas
Oils/Minute Man Printing #17G)

Activities canceled after 2 completed laps of the Lane Automotive heat.
