State Championship Race Qualifier Fast And Furious
By Scott Owen
Clintonville,WI,8/3--The GSR Kartway held its second and final Wisconsin State
Dirt Championship Series qualifying event on Wednesday night. Seventy seven
karters were on hand to do battle. Track points were also on the
line. Talon Laabs, Parker May, Brandon Reichenberger, Alex Stumpf, Joe
Reuter, Cheyenne Cameron, Brett Swedberg, Kirk Quaintance, and Kyle Lentz won
their feature races.
Talon Laabs led every lap of the kiddie kart feature to pick up yet another
win on the year. Laabs also won both of his heat races. Skyler Wood got
close to Laabs a couple of times but could not make a pass for the lead.
He had to settle for second.
In the Mitchell Motorsports box stock class Parker May started on the pole and
never looked back. May also won one of his earlier heat races.
Rickey Kalfert finished an impressive second. He also won a heat
race. Devon crossed the line in the third spot. Church and Tristan
Peebles won the other two heat races. Kalfert qualified himself for the
state race with his second place performance.
The Yarie Motorsports controlled stock feature was led early on by Eric Klafka.
Klafka held the top spot until lap twelve when Brandon Reichenberger used the
inside line to make the pass for the lead. Klafka would stay close to the end
but Reichenberger held on for the victory. Klafka, Chantel Wunderlich,
Kyle Hahn, and Ashlee Glocke won the heat races. Reichenberger is now
qualified for the championship race.
In junior one action Alex Stumpf returned to his dominant form of earlier this
year. Stumpf led the entire feature event and also picked up a heat race
win. Darren Jackson finished in the second spot. Reagan May
rounded out the top three. Jesse Colwell won the other heat race. The
top four finishers of this race were already qualified for the state
race. Jacob Godschalx is now qualified with his fifth place
finish.
The Action Awards stock medium class was up next. Pole sitter Brett
Swedberg was the leader early on. Joe Reuter was running right on
Swedberg's back bumper. On lap five Reuter made his move and grabbed the
lead. Reuter would hand on for the duration of the race to get the
win. Swedberg held on for second. Swedberg and Reuter each won a
heat race. Reuter used the win to qualify himself for the state
race. Kyle Lent was the lone representative in the stock light class so
he also will qualify for the state race.
In the GSR Kartway junior two class Alex Hock made an incredible move at
the start of the race to grab the lead. Hock had started on the inside
of the second row. His lead would not last for long though as Aaron
Milavitz got by on lap three. Milavitz would not hang on to the lead for
long either as Cheyenne Cameron took away the lead on lap six. Cameron would
hang on for the win. Seventh starting Matt Kretschmann finished in
second. Cameron, Milavitz, Hock, and Brandon Long won the heat
races. Josh Long qualified for the state race with his third place
finish.
Brett Swedberg dominated the stock heavy class by leading the entire feature
and also winning both heat races. Joe Reuter was able to keed pace with
Swedberg but could not find the room to make a pass. Reuter finished in
the second spot. Reuter's runner-up position was good enough though to
get him into the state championship race.
Kirk Quaintance made his debut in the junior animal class a good one as he led
the enire feature event. Johnny Whitman won both of heat races and
finished in second. Ben Stumpf took third. With the win Quaintance
is now qualified for the state race.
Kyle Lentz started on the pole and never looked back in the Drews Well
Drilling WKA animal feature. Blaire Laughlin finished in second. Justin
Anthony took third. Lentz and Andrew Hock won the heat races. Blaire
Laughlin is now qualified for the state race.
Racing will continue next Wednesday at the GSR Kartway with a seven o'clock
start time. The Wisconsin State Dirt Championship race will be held September
tenth at the Monsterworld Speedway in Unity.
