Hensel Wins Second In A Row At Fox Ridge
(ARCADIA, Wisc) - - Cold does not begin to describe the weather Friday night
May 5th at FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY. Not only were the temperatures down in the 40s
. . . but, the wind whipping through the West-Central Wisconsin country side
chilled race fans to the bone!
Not really the most optimum weather with which to celebrate the ol’ “Cinco-De-Mayo”!!
But, there was racing in the blood of those strong enough to brave the
elements . . . and it kept them well heated all night long as the action
unveiled itself at THE RIDGE!
DONLINGER DOMINATES USRA MODS
After starting the season with a second place feature finish during the ’06
Season Opener, Rochester, MN’s Tim Donlinger took control of the USRA
Modified feature early this week and never once looked back. He could hear
what was behind him . . . but never once looked back.
“Tonight the track was perfect again!” commented Donlinger after picking
up the USRA Feature win, “Just like last week, this track was really nice.
And I had my setup just right, I could hear Ron coming, but I had a little
left if I needed it!!"
The previous week, explained Donlinger, he’d missed read the weather and
what he thought the track would demand come feature time, “when I got on the
track for last week’s feature I KNEW that I’d made the wrong adjustments .
. . this week, though, I had the setup just right!”
With the feature win, and a second place finish by last week’s feature
winner Ron Konkel, the two find themselves tied atop the early season point
standings.
Brad Waits road the absolute highest line possible en route to a third place
finish while Brink’s Trucking team-mates Ron Britain and Rick Hauser
completed the top-5.
Konkel and Donlinger won the first and second heat races, respectively.
HENSEL BUILDING A STREAK
The Youth-Movement is in full swing! WISSOTA Late Model teen-age driver Adam
Hensel picked up his second feature win in a row at FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY!
Hensel worked the field hard and quick early to take the lead and open up a
lead of the pack. Winona’s Keith Foss appeared to have something to offer
the young Barron, WI driver, but couldn’t quite get up alongside Hensel’s
#44 to challenge for the lead.
Foss settled for second with 2003 FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY WISSOTA Late Model Track
Champion Steve Isenberg finishing third.
Heat race winner Lance Mathees and Hayward, MN driver Ben Mattick completed
the Feature top-5.
QUEENSLAND IS THE KING OF THE SUPER STOCKS
21-year-old Grand Meadow, MN racer Cole Queensland bettered his previous
week’s efforts at FOX RIDGE SPEEDWAY by two positions to pick up his first
feature win of 2006!
Clearing traffic through the first third of the feature, Queensland’s black
#20 was safely out front when a spin in turn four ended the night of sever
racers, including heat race winner Mark Stender.
Chippewa Falls’ John Feirn raced to his second second-place finish of the
evening with Dan Arneson and Jeff Dregney following in third and fourth as the
checkered flag waved to conclude the WISSOTA Super Stock Feature.
Kasson, MN’s Bobby Swanson completed the top-5 in the finishing order.
BRAUER BATTLES FOR FEATURE WIN
Jeff Brauer and Jared Loos put on an absolutely picture perfect battle
throughout the WISSOTA MidWest Modified feature race; all the way to the
waiving checkered flag the two swapped positions, racing grooves, and probably
a little paint and Hoosier racing tire rubber as well as they duked it out for
the feature win!
The battle raged all the way to the Start / Finish line with Brauer bettering
Loos by inches. Brauer and Loos had finished in the same position earlier in
the evening’s heat race . . . all be it, behind heat winner Clint Wittlief.
2004 FOX RIDGE WISSOTA MidWest Modified Track Champion Harlan Morehart
finished the evening’s feature in third, with Chad Matuska and Wittlief
rounding out the top-5.
CONRAD CONQUERS STREET STOCKS
“Man, I just love this track!” exclaimed Independence, WI driver Michael
Conrad after winning the evening’s WISSOTA Street Stock feature, “This is
my favorite track - I could run here 7 nights a week!"
Conrad fought off challenges by Defending Track Champion (and opening night
feature winner) Danny Hanson to collect his first feature win of the 2006 FOX
RIDGE season! The feature win also catapulted Conrad into the lead of the
division’s point standings.
Hanson settled for second, followed by Kylan Gamez, Wayne Dean and Fred
Prudoehl.
SCHERMERHORN NETS HORNET WIN
After winning the evening’s opening heat race, La Crosse, WI’s Rick
Schermerhorn was the class of the field in the 4-Cylinder Hornet Division’s
feature event – racing to the feature win ahead of a hard charging Mike
Skroch of Independence.
Second heat race winner Dalton Yohnk completed the top-3 as the checkered
flags concluded the feature race.
