EWSC Season Opener At Manitowoc A Hit
Manitowoc, WI, May 7, 2005 - Saturday night racing at the Manitowoc Expo
Raceway was the inaugural race for EWSC racing, which starts a 3 year racing
contract at the 1/3 mile dirt track oval.
Super Stock campaigner Ben Schmidt of Plymouth took home clean sweep honors
and Bubba’s Place Hard Charger award. Schmidt won the feature and was
followed to the checkered flag by Mike Bastien, Manitowoc, and rounding out
third place was Duane Dippel. Super Stock qualifying was delayed due to a
crash when Chris Blanke, Kiel, took out the guard rails between turns one and
two.
Dan Dippel, Plymouth, veteran campaigner in the Limited Late Models, battled
door to door with Keith Borth, Sheboygan, taking the checkered flag seconds
ahead of Borth. Borth finished second; however, after the checkers fell, Borth
hit the guard rails and had to be towed off the track. In third place it was
Howie Weiss, Glenbeulah.
EWSC’s legendary self-starting, open-wheeled, Winged Super Modifieds
provided the fans with the much anticipated, exciting, fast-paced racing
action as Gary Laack, Glenbeulah, charged to the front of the pack beating out
second place finisher Campbellsport’s Tony Wondra and the night’s fast
time qualifier, Billy Hafemann, who finished third.
The All-American Mighty 4’s campaigner, Vicky Milbrath, Howards Grove, won
the feature event followed by Howards Grove’s Mark Kuhfuss. Sandra Meyer,
Plymouth, rounded out the top three.
EWSC’s newest division, The Eastern 8’s, saw familiar racers from Chilton
and Francis Creek at the Expo. Marshal Mullenix, Freedom, won the
inaugural heat race and the feature event. Brett Koehler, Two Rivers native,
came in second place, and in third was an unnamed driver driving the number 38
race car.
Bubba’s Place Hard Charger award: Eastern 8’s - Bret Koehler, Two Rivers;
Super Stock - Ben Schmidt, Plymouth; Limited Late Model - Dan Dippel,
Plymouth; Modifieds - tied, passing 7 cars each, Troy Wondra and Billy
Hafemann. EWSC will be racing at the Expo Saturday nights May through
September. For additional information, log on to www.ewscracing.com.
