Miller Lite Bonus Money Awarded To Laack, Dippel And Ruh
By Mary Burbach
August 7, 2004- Miller Lite/Lee Beverage sponsored the Eastern Wisconsin Stock
Cars race program and awarded bonus money to the drivers in the Winged Super
Modified, Limited Late Model and Super Stock divisions. Earning the
bonus money by becoming the Miller Lite Fast Qualifier were Glenbeulah’s
Gary Laack in the Mods, Sheboygan’s Brian Cesar in the Limited Late Models
and Plymouth’s Ben Schmidt in the Super Stocks. Additional bonus money
from Miller Lite was also award in these divisions to the A-Main winners.
Last season’s track champion, # 4 Paul Pokorski of West Bend, who has won
two A-Mains this season, grabbed the early lead in the Winged Super Modified
30-lap A-Main. As Pokorski attempted to race out in front alone,
the Miller Lite Fast Qualifier # 62 Gary Laack of Glenbeulah climbed through
the field from his eleventh place starting spot to pull behind Pokorski in lap
eight. On the same lap, last week’s A-Main winner # 98 Tim McMullen of
Plymouth moved into the top five. Pokorski began lapping cars one lap
later but Laack stayed on his bumper by passing the cars as fast as Pokorski
sent them back. At the mid-point of the race, Laack built his momentum
and passed Pokorski for the lead just before a yellow flag halted racing
action. On the restart, Laack lined up out in front alone with Pokorski
inside and McMullen outside the next row. As the green flag restarted
the action, Laack wasted no time in charging out in front as Pokorski and
McMullen switched racing grooves and raced after the leader. By lap 24,
Laack, who had built up a sizable lead over second place Pokorski, began
lapping cars. As Laack skillfully weaved through the back of the field,
the checkered flag gave fast qualifying Laack his first Modified A-Main win of
the 2004 season. With finishing third in his heat race earlier, Laack
was only two places away from being the first driver to clean sweep in
2004. Pokorski and McMullen followed in second and third with B-Main
winner # 97 Tony Wondra of Campbellsport and # 99 Chuck Tuschl of Reedsville
rounding out the top five. The Meyer Motors Hard Charger was awarded to
Laack for passing nine cars.
Without a yellow flag to slow down the racing action, the Limited Late Model
A-Main showcased fast racing action from the wave of the first green
flag. # 57 John Scharenbroch of Sheboygan Falls grabbed the early lead
over previous track champion # 8 Dan Dippel of Plymouth. By lap three,
Scharenbroch and Dippel raced out in front with a separate battle behind them
between # 38 Scott Haugstad of Plymouth and # 89 Todd Jensema of Sheboygan
Falls for third. As lapped traffic became a factor in lap eight, Scharenbroch
and Dippel crossed the start/finish line together but Scharenbroch was not
ready to give up the lead and motored out in front again. At the
half-way point in the 25-lap race, Dippel was on Scharenbroch’s
bumper. A lap later, Dippel took control of the lead and charged through
lapped traffic to the checkered. Heat winner Dippel won his first A-Main
in the 2004 season. Scharenbroch followed in second with Haugstad,
Jensema and Miller Lite Fast Qualifier # 69 Brian Cesar of Sheboygan rounding
out the top five. Cesar also earned the Meyer Motors Hard Charger
honors.
Elkhart Lake’s # 84 Bradley Ruh grabbed the lead at the beginning of the
20-lap Super Stock A-Main race with another Elkhart Lake driver # 89 Paul
Dirks on his bumper. Plymouth’s # 29 Jeremy Sauter charged into third
by lap eight to chase down Ruh and Dirks who had built up a lead over the
field. As Sauter caught up to Dirks, substitute driver # 48 JJ Walvoord
joined the battle for second. With Dirks, Sauter and Walvoord battling
each other, Ruh charged out in front alone. Without a yellow flag to
pull the field together and slow down leader Ruh, the laps changed quickly and
Ruh took the checkered to win his second Super Stock A-Main of the
season. Dirks followed in second with Sauter, Walvoord and in a white
flag lap pass, # 7 Brian Gilles of Plymouth rounded out the top five.
The Meyer Motors Hard Charger award went to Cleveland’s # 85 Steve Schad
after passing nine cars to finish eighth.
In the first of two Mighty 4 A-Main events, # 68 Joe Miller of Plymouth took
control of the race in lap two just before the only yellow flag halted racing
action in lap three. On the restart, Miller charged out in front with
first # 34 Joe Grohskopf of Sheboygan and then # 9 Jason Voss of Glenbeulah
behind him in second. After winning the first Mighty 4 A-Main last week,
Miller lead the field back to the checkered again to make it back to back
wins. Voss followed in second and Grohskopf in third. The Meyer
Motors Hard Charger award went to Voss and fourth place finisher # 03 Sandra
Meyer of Plymouth for passing nine cars each.
In the second Mighty 4 A-Main, # 62 Eric Muehlbauer of Kiel grabbed the early
lead with # 29 Nic Schuette of Glenbeulah moving into second in lap
seven. A lap later, Schuette took over the lead with # 33 Josh Long of
Waldo behind him just before the only yellow flag re-lined up the field.
After the green flag flew, three time A-Main winner # 15 Cory Edler of Cascade
jumped passed both Schuette and Long to take over the lead. Edler
charged out in front straight to the checkered to record 4 A-Main wins in
2004. Long followed in second with # 32 Scott Long also of Waldo making
a last lap pass to finish third. The Meyer Motors Hard Charger went to
both Edler and Josh Long for each passing 10 cars to finish first and second.
Join Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars on Saturday, August 14th at the Sheboygan
County Fair Park in Plymouth for the Tecumseh Power Company Night at the
Races. A full racing program is scheduled with the self-starting Winged
Super Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Super Stocks and All-American Mighty 4
divisions.
