The Bear Comes Out Of Hibernation To Take EWSC Opener

May 3, 2003. PLYMOUTH, WI. Second-generation driver, Billy “The Bear” Hafemann captured the EWSC Super-Winged Modified, M&R Racing Equipment 30 lap A-Main event. Chuck Tuschl led the race early on, but he later ran into problems with a lap car, and on lap 16 he spun into the infield, giving the race lead to Tim McMullen. Hafemann and McMullen battled for the number one spot and on lap 22, Hafemann captured the lead. Hafemann piloted the Michaels Material # 2 into victory lane. “This is an incredible start to our season. The car handled well on the bottom of the racetrack, and I was able to use that to my advantage. I am excited to be standing in victory lane, and I would like to thank everyone who helped me get here.”

A last lap pass for the second spot occurred when Ken Jay Fiedler motored his car around the high side to pass Tim McMullen who finished third. The fourth spot went to Gary Laack, and rounding out the top ten, Pete Ostrowski, Tony Wondra, Matt Van Wyk, Kris Hansen, Dave Deicher and Tom Johnson. The Meyer Motors Hard Charger award was given to the # 97, Tony Wondra, who started fourteenth and finished sixth.

The Port-A-John # 72, piloted by Dennis Klumb, stayed park for the night after finishing second in his heat race. He ran into motor problems on lap four of the heat race and was able to finish, but was forced to scratch for the rest of the nights events. Pete Ostrowski and Paul Pokorski tangled in their heat race, sending Pokorski up and over. Neither driver was injured, nor Pokorski was unable to re-start the night’s events.

Miller Lite Fast time honors went to the # 68, Craig Perko.

The M&R Racing Equipment Limited Late Model Feature event was handed over on lap eight to the Edler Trucking # 77, Brian Cesar. After several cautions early in the race, Cesar was able to maintain good track position, which allowed him to steer into the first position. Cesar has four years of Grand National experience, and was able to capture the Limited Late Model 25 lap main event. Second place honors went to, Scott Haugstad, and rounding out the top five, Brian Kessler, Dingel Brothers, Howie Weiss, Rick Thompson. Thompson was involved in a wreck early on, and was able to charge from the back spot up to finish fifth. Passing five cars to receive the Meyer Motors Hard Charger award was Howie Weiss.

The M&R Racing Equipment Super Stock A-Main honors went to the 1998 track champion John Dirks, who also picked up a heat race win this evening. Dirks captured the 20-lap A-Main victory while running the high grove. After Dirks motored into the front spot, there were several races going on behind the leader, which abled Dirks to pull away. Second place honors went to Brian Katt, Rounding out the top five, Jeff Leonhard, Mark Scholten and Luke Scholten. Meyer Motors Hard Charger honors went to Brian Katt.

Luke Scholten took home the M&R Racing Equipment B-Main honors.

Joe Miller was able to capture the lead on lap 12 of the M&R Racing Equipment All-American Mighty Fours 15 lap Main event. Miller moved from the ninth spot to capture the victory. Second place honors went to Tim Sauter. Rounding out the top five, # 9 (No Listing), Jeremy Goetsch, Duane Dippel. The Meyer Motors Hard Charger award went to Duane Dippel after passing 12 cars.
