Reuvers, Schultz, Carlander And Partington Champs At Elko Speedway

( Elko , MN – 9/17/05)  Donny Reuvers, Steve Schultz, Matt Carlander and Jeff Partington captured their respective division championships Saturday night at Elko Speedway.

Reuvers claimed the win in the Budweiser Super Late Model Cedar View Electric 50 after post race weight inspection disallowed an apparent victory for Jamie Farrell.  Farrell took the early lead from Steve Anderson and coasted to a sizable advantage over the rest of the field.  Just before the races first of two yellows on lap 39, Jake Ryan moved underneath Conrad Jorgenson for the runner-up spot.  Off the restart, Reuvers was able to motor past Jorgenson into third with Ryan chasing down Farrell.  Ryan and Farrell had contact with just one lap remaining with both spinning, bringing out the final caution.  Farrell was awarded his top spot back while Ryan was relegated to the tail of the field.  Reuvers was content to bring his ride home in second until being given the win after the cars came through tech.  Moving to second in the finish was Anderson , followed by Jacob Goede, Jason Schneider and Brian Johnson.

“It’s all starting to sink in now,” said a jubilant Reuvers from victory lane.  “The success we’ve had is all about this team.”  And what a tremendous season Reuvers had!  Reuvers Elko Championship will allow the team to take the top two spots in NASCAR’s Division IV standings and allow the upstart some serious spotlight time at the Dodge Weekly Racing Series banquet in Nashville in November.  Reuvers will also collect $40,000 for his efforts along with other contingencies.

Schultz ran one of his more conservative races of the season in capturing fourth place in the GhostRiders Sportsmen Cedar View Electric 30.  “I was a bit conservative but we knew what we had to get done to win the championship,” said Schultz who grabbed the title for the second year in a row.  Doug Brown took the early lead but gave way to Justin Neisius on the seventh circuit.  A relentless Brown refused to lay back, pressuring Neisius throughout the race.  A hard charging Greg Bieber moved around Schultz and charged hard to the leaders.  Brown was able to get past Neisius on the last lap to claim the win with Neisius holding on for second, followed by Bieber, Schultz and Kevin Lutz.

Carlander is also a repeat champion by warding off a mid race spin to outdistance Kris Morlean in the final point count for the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars.  “We (the team) worked really hard all season long and these guys put in long hours to get to where we are,” said Carlander in accepting the six foot high champions trophy.  After Carlander spun on the 11 th lap and had to go to the back of the field, Morlean made it interesting in charging toward the front.  However, some contact on the 16 th lap caused Morlean to suffer a cut tire and put an end to his night.  Dustin Mann and Ted Reuvers swapped the lead several times in the early going of the Cedar View Electric 25.  Mann recaptured the lead and then held off hard charging Adam Wolfe for the win.  Wolfe was able to get around Reuvers on the last lap but refused post race inspection giving Reuvers second followed by Kevin Turek, Brent Kane and Dan Weber.

Partington captured the ACDelco Power Stocks championship with a strong third place run in the Cedar View Electric 20.  “This championship is all about my family and my crew,” said Partington.  “Without them, I wouldn’t be here right now”.  Adam Simon took the lead from Dustin Tuma for good at the halfway point of the contest with Scott King moving around Tuma keeping the pressure on Simon.  Matt Ryan worked his way though the field from his 12 th starting spot to pressure the leaders but came up short in his bid for a top three finish.  Simon held off King for the win with Partington third, Ryan fourth and Jason Novak fifth.

A last lap spin allowed the Two-Man Cruiser team of Jeff Ewanika and Steve Jensen to capture one of the two Cruiser features.  The other feature win went to the team of Jay Simon and Phil Peterson.

Elko Speedway will host the final Eve of Destruction this Saturday night, September 24 th.  The night will highlight the Battle of the Monster Trucks featuring Rolling Thunder against Devastator.  Also on the schedule are School Bus Races, Figure 8’s, Cruisers, Hornets, a special all-female Queen Bee Hornet Race, an all-Hornet Flagpole race and a Cruiser Back-up Race.  There will also be a fund raiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina organized by the Minneapolis Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The 2005 season will come to a close on Saturday, October 1 with the running of the 2 nd Annual Thunder Car Nationals.  That night has been designated “Military Appreciation Night” with all current and former military I-D card holders and their families getting in free.
