Jorgenson Tops State Fair 300 Field At Elko Speedway

(Elko, MN – 9-5-05)  Conrad Jorgenson had the field covered in piloting his Herman’s Landscape Chevy to a convincing win Monday afternoon in the Luther Automotive State Fair 300.

Jorgensen used the first 100 lap segment to move toward the front from his 17th starting spot.  Dean Cornelius grabbed the early lead until giving way to a hard charging Jacob Goede on the 23rd lap.  Cornelius was forced to retire his car on the 29th lap.  A spin in front of Goede on the 55th lap caused the young charger to drop back to seventh in the running order bringing Ryan Matthews to the point.  Matthews incurred a cut tire twelve laps later and starting his drop in the field, eventually meeting up with the front straight wall on the 91st circuit.  Tim Schendel inherited a lead that he would hold into the second 100 lap session.  Kelly Bires got by Schendel on the 105th lap and took control of the race until a caution was displayed on the 134th lap.  Bires was forced to pit during the caution and never made it back onto the race track.  At that point Jorgenson would be positioned in the lead which he was able to hold for the final 156 laps.  Goede moved into second at the races halfway point and looked to be strong enough to give Jorgenson a run.  However, engine problems forced Goede to the pits for good on the 214th lap, allowing Schendel to move back into second followed by Steve Carlson, Jake Ryan and Jon Lemke.  Lemke would give up his spot to Adam Royle 30 laps later and then wound up in a spin with Todd Hansen that brought out the seventh and final caution of the race on lap 254.  Jorgenson showed his strength on the restart and motored away from the rest of the field over the final 40 laps to lay claim to the win and the $10,000 check that came with it.

“I really don’t know what to say about this team.  I knew coming into the weekend that we had a strong car and that we could win this one if everything fell into place.  And it did,” said a beaming Jorgenson from victory lane.  “Just to finish in front of Steve (Carlson) and Tim (Schendel) is a great accomplishment.”  Carlson finished second while Schendel settled for third.  Royle and Ryan rounded out the top five.
