Viking Flair To Highlight MN State Fair 300
Former Vikings Mike Morris and Paul Krause to take part
in the Racing Spectacular
(Elko, MN) – There will be a distinct purple hue as race fans prepare to
settle in for the running of the Sate Fair 300 on Labor Day Monday at Elko
Speedway.
Two of the most popular players in the history of the Vikings will be taking
part in the festivities both before and after the race.
Popular KFAN Power Trip Morning Show Host “The Superstar” Mike Morris will
act as the days Grand Marshall. Morris spent nine years with the Vikings
before having to wake up “way too early in the morning” to entertain
listeners to the syndicated morning radio show on The Fan Radio Network.
After playing college football for Northeast Missouri State University (now
Truman State), Morris had NFL stops in St. Louis, Arizona, Washington, New
England and Cleveland before making Minnesota his home. Mike has been on
the Minneapolis airwaves since 1993.
NFL Hall of Famer Paul Krause will also attend and take part in the Labor Day
racing festivities and will be showing off his one of a kind, never to be
duplicated custom built chopper that he debuted at the Canton Hall of Fame
parade on August 6th. The chopper “Interceptor” has been customized
with 92 original NFL Hall of Fame signatures which are the most ever to be
displayed in one place at one time. A free safety from the University of
Iowa, Krause became the NFL’s leading pass interceptor with 81 picks over
his 16 year career, including the final 12 with the Vikings. Krause
intercepted passes in seven straight games during his rookie campaign in 1964
and nearly matched that mark while recording steals in six straight games
during the 1968 season.
The competitors in the State Fair 300 can only hope for the durability that
Krause showed over his 16 NFL seasons. In all of those years, he only
missed two games due to injury.
The State Fair 300 will be the culmination of a busy race weekend at Elko
Speedway. The weekend will kick-off with The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
on Saturday night, September 3rd featuring the Budweiser Super Late Models,
GhostRider Sportsmen, Coca-Cola Thunder Cars and the ACDelco Power
Stocks. Racing will begin at 7pm on Saturday. The Spectacular
racing weekend continues on Sunday night, September 4th with the finale of
both the ACDelco Super Summer Series and the MidAm/GhostRider Sportsmen
Daytona 500 Challenge Series. The super Summer Series Super Late Models
will battle in twin-50 lap features while the Sportsmen will contest yet
another 50 lap feature. The Champions of both series will be crowned
following the races when Boogie Wonderland takes a break from their post race
entertainment. The weekend will be capped off with the running of the
$10,000 to win, $1,000 to start State Fair 300. The top Super Late Model
drivers from around the Mid-west are expected to attempt to make the field for
this prestigious event. Those not successful in making the field will be
running in a special 40 lap B-main feature which will pay $1,000 to win.
