Ryan's Roll Continues At Elko Speedway
8/20/05 (Elko, MN) Jake Ryan’s recent domination continued
Saturday night at Elko Speedway as the young upstart captured his fifth
Budweiser Super Late Model win in a row in claiming the College City Homes
Dwain Behrens Memorial 50. Steve Schultz and Doug Brown garnered wins in
the College City Homes Twin 30’s for the GhostRiders Sportsmen while Matt
Carlander won the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars College City Homes 25 and Dustin Tuma
held on to win the ACDelco Power Stocks College City Homes 20.
“I’m just not sure what to say anymore,” said a happy Ryan from victory
lane. “We got over our early problems and refocused on what we needed
to do. It says so much about what this team is all about.” Ryan
had suffered a cut tire in a heat race with the team scrambling to get the
ride back together in time for the feature and a start near the tail of the 23
car field. A cut tire also was the culprit in a disappointing night for
NASCAR Division Four point leader Donny Reuvers. Reuvers milked the car
for all he could before being forced to retire the ride on the 27th
circuit. Reuvers and Brian Johnson battled for the lead off the green
flag, but Johnson headed for the pits during a second lap caution, making it
back out at the end of the lead lap. Reuvers started backing up on the
fifth lap as Darrin Giles took a lead he would hold until giving way to Jason
Schneider on the 17th lap. Adam Royle battled around Giles for second
but the two got together, sending both to the back. Schneider had
trouble on the restart giving the lead to Conrad Jorgenson and forcing
Schneider into the pit. Ryan chased down Jorgenson and passed for the
lead on lap 25. Steve Anderson battled Jorgenson for the runner-up spot
the rest of the way with Jorgenson holding the spot with Anderson third
followed by Steve Murgic and Brian Johnson who had made his way from the back
of the field to finish fifth.
It took Steve Schultz 27 of the 30 laps to work his way from his tenth
starting spot to the lead and the win in the first of the two GhostRiders
Sportsmen features. Tom Kamish would claim the early lead with Josh
Larsen in tow. Larsen made a high side pass to gain the lead on the 8th
lap with Doug Brown and Schultz moving around Adam Bendzick into the top
four. Brown moved around Kamish for second on the 13th lap. Kamish
got loose out of turn four two laps later allowing Schultz into third and
bringing Paul Neisius to fourth. Schultz muscled around brown for second
on lap 21 and set his sights on Larsen making the pass for the lead and the
win on lap 27 of the caution-free feature. Larsen held on for second,
followed by Brown, Greg Bieber and Neisius.
Brown made a last lap pass on Kevin Lutz to claim the win in the second
GhostRiders Sportsmen feature. Lutz claimed the lead from Cliff Adee on
the 7th lap and looked to be on his way to his first Sportsmen win.
However, the only caution of the race on lap 20 tightened the field.
Lutz held the lead on the restart with Bieber moving around Adee for second a
lap later. Bieber slid high in turn two of the 23rd circuit giving room
for Brown to make the pass on the inside. Brown reeled in Lutz and the
two battled side by side with Brown claiming the win on the final lap.
Lutz settled for second followed by Bieber, Neisius and Schultz.
Carlander methodically worked his way to the front and took the lead from
Jerry Thomsen on the 19th lap and then held on over two late cautions to claim
the win in the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars 25. Thomsen led from the start
with Ted Reuvers getting around Kevin Turek for second in the early
laps. Carlander moved into third by lap 5 and grabbed second from
Reuvers on the next lap. Carlander was able to make the 19th lap pass
for the lead hold up despite two late cautions. Thomsen held off Reuvers
for second with James Weeks earning fourth and Dave Sellner, Jr. fifth.
Tuma was on the move toward the front from the get-go of the ACDelco Power
Stocks 20. He moved into fourth on lap 3, to third on lap 7, to second
on lap 8 and into the lead for good on the 12th circuit. Jay Seiler took
the early lead away from Nick Crawford and would hold on until Tuma made the
12th lap pass. Seiler was able to come home second, followed by Adam
Simon, Scott King and Jeremy Rypkema.
