Ryan Reigns Supreme In ACDelco Super Summer Series Sweep

8/6/05  (Elko, MN)  The Jake Ryan race team is back with a vengeance!  Ryan was a dominant force in picking up wins in both 50 lap Super Late Model features Saturday night at Elko Speedway.  Kristopher Morlean was nearly as dominate as Ryan in picking up the Scherer Brothers Lumber Company Coca-Cola Thunder Cars 25 win while a determined Steve Klose drove to victory lane in the Scherer Brothers Lumber Company ACDelco Power Stocks 20.

“We proved last week it can be done and we’re going to give it our best shot,” Ryan said from victory lane after winning the first 50 lapper.  Ryan was referring to the invert of the lead lap cars that would relegate him to the 18th starting spot for the second 50 laps.  A week earlier Ryan was forced to make a quick stop in the pits and returned to the track in turn two just as the field was taking the green flag.  He motored through the field on his way to the winners circle just as he did in both features Saturday night.  “We’re back in this thing even after all of our early season frustrations,” said Ryan.  “We’ve got another week where we need to keep our hands off this car.”

After taking the top qualifying spot, Ryan drew for the invert and started 10th.  It didn’t take long to motor past the strong field of Super Late Models that were battling at the front.  Lead and position changes between the top five in the early going was the norm.  Steve Murgic, Jason Schneider, Ryan Matthews, Brian Johnson and Dean Cornelius all showed early signs of capturing the win.  But Ryan worked through traffic to the lead and never looked back.  NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Divisional points leader Donny Reuvers patiently made his way toward the front and grabbed second place.  “By the time I got up to second, Jake had checked out and we needed to save tires for the next 50,” said Reuvers.  Cornelius was able to wrestle the third spot away from the strong run of Schneider while Murgic settled for fifth.

The second 50 was just as dominant for Ryan starting 18th on the field.  Jon Lemke grabbed the lead and looked to have enough car to hold off the rest of the field.  A couple of yellow flags tightened the field with Ryan moving around Blake Bjorklund and then Lemke for the lead and the win.  Bjorklund caught Lemke in the late going for second with Lemke holding on for third followed by Andy Hanson and Todd Hanson.

Once Kristopher Morlean got the lead in the Thunder Cars 25, he showed he was the class of the field.  Morlean motored past Dave Franek and Dustin Mann for the early lead and checked out on the field.  Even a mid-race yellow didn’t faze Morlean as he had no trouble opening up the lead again on the restart.  Division defending champ and current point leader Matt Carlander patiently worked his way through the field in garnering the runner-up spot.  Mann held on for third followed by Joe Garofalo and James Weeks.

Adam Wiebusch took the early lead in the Power Stocks 20 but a hard charging Steve Klose was just too much for Wiebusch.  Klose motored past Wiebusch and Dustin Tuma for the lead that he would keep to the checkered flag.  Point leader Jeff Partington mounted a late rally but couldn’t get past Klose and settled for second.  Tuma finished third followed by Scott King and Mike Meszaros.

Racing continues this Saturday night, August 13th with Lube Tech Night at the Races presented by Apple Valley Ford.  Lube Tech is sponsoring a benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with one dollar of each ticket sold for the night going to the foundation.  The racing will feature the first of two stops for the Minnesota Late Model Challenge Series which pits the best drivers from Elko taking on competitors from I-94 Speedway and Raceway Park.  The night will also feature the GhostRider’s Sportsmen, the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars, the ACDelco Power Stocks and a special appearance of the two-man Cruisers.  Tickets are available on the website at www.elkospeedway.com or by calling the speedway box office Monday through Friday between 9am and 4pm.
