A Determined Ryan Captures Win At Elko Speedway
7/30/05 (Elko, MN) The Jake Ryan Budweiser Super Late Model racing team
shrugged off some early season frustrations in a commanding performance in
grabbing the win in the Lehman’s Garage 50 Saturday night at Elko
Speedway. Ryan started 12th on the grid and had moved through the field
to the third spot by the half-way point catching Jason Schneider in a chase
for 2nd. Ryan dove to the inside on lap 27 and set his sights on leader
Donny Reuvers. Just four circuits later, Ryan was able to once again use
the inside groove to motor past Reuvers. Ryan was able to withstand a
couple of late race cautions to claim the win. Steve Murgic rode the
wall going into turn 3 on the 48th lap. Ryan was able to hold the point
on the restart and then withstood a last lap skirmish in claiming the
victory. “These guys have been working so hard to get this car to
work, it feels good being here again,” said Ryan referring to victory
lane. “I think we got the program back in line just in time with the
ACDelco Super Summer Series race next Saturday.” Division point leader
Reuvers was able to hold onto second, followed by Schneider, Conrad Jorgenson
and Steve Anderson.
A mid-race caution helped Ricky Martin set up a move for the lead and the win
in the Lehman’s Garage 30 for the GhostRider’s Sportsmen. Martin
muscled his way to the inside of Josh Larsen on the 16th lap restart and held
on for the win. Larsen led the first 15 circuits and finished second
ahead of Jonathan Eilen. Mike Skaja made a late race pass to claim
fourth while Kevin Lutz rounded out the top five.
Jerry Thomsen gave up the lead to Matt Carlander mid-way through the Coca-Cola
Thunder Car Lehman’s Garage 25 but made a last lap-turn four move to edge
out Carlander at the line. Thomsen grabbed the lead from the drop of the
green flag while Carlander moved through the field from his 8th starting
spot. Carlander caught and got by Thomsen for the lead on the 12th
circuit of the yellow-free feature. But Thomsen was able to hang with
Carlander the rest of the way and got a great run out of the last corner to
claim the win. James Weeks finished a strong third followed by Brent
Kane and Kris Morlean.
Jeff Partington claimed yet another win in the ACDelco Power Stocks Lehman’s
Garage 20. It took Partington 7 laps to claim the point from Joe Fierst.
Fierst was able to hold off Jeremy Rypkema who settled for third in front of
Scott King and Chase Weber.
Lakeville’s Chris Marek captured the win in the first feature for the
Hornets while Don Johnson of Rosemount won the second.
Racing continues this Saturday night (August 6) with Round Two of the ACDelco
Super Summer Series headlining the night. The Budweiser Super Late
Models will be joined by the MARS (Mid-West All Star Racing Series) Super Late
Models in twin-50 lap features. The schedule also includes the Coca-Cola
Thunder Cars and the ACDelco Power Stocks. The GhostRider’s Sportsmen
will have the night off and will run double features on August 20th.
