Goede Good, But Reuvers Holds On For Mid-Season Championship At Elko
(Elko, MN – 7/16/05) Jacob Goede admitted in victory lane to doing
some mirror driving on his way to the Budweiser Super Late Model Jack
Daniel’s 50 win Saturday night at Elko Speedway. “I was watching
Donnie (Reuvers) and Steve (Murgic) battling behind me. That was quite a
race going on,” said Goede while receiving his first place hardware.
Murgic needed to get around Reuvers for Goede to move into a tie for the
points lead and a co-championship at the mid point of the racing season.
Five laps Murgic was able to inch ahead of Reuvers at the line. However,
his ride loosened up coming out of turn four on the 47th circuit allowing
Reuvers to coast home to a second place finish and ultimately the mid-season
championship.
Champions were crowned in all four of the main racing divisions with Steve
Schultz holding on for the GhostRiders Sportsmen title, Matt Carlander
squeaking out the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars honors and Jeff Partington breezing
to the championship for the ACDelco Power Stocks.
Goede got into position for the win after the races only caution on lap seven
that sent perennial power Jake Ryan to the pits for the night. Murgic
was able to run the low groove to perfection in mounting the challenge for
second. The division veterans, Reuvers and Murgic, went side by side
until the 47th lap slip up with Murgic having to settle for third.
Darrin Giles celebrated his birthday by getting around Brian Johnson with just
four circuits left to claim fourth with Johnson fifth.
Greg Bieber simply checked out on the field in claiming the win in the
GhostRiders Sportsmen Charter Media 30. “I knew this car was good when
I was closing in on lapping Doug (Brown) toward the end of the race,” said
Bieber from victory lane. “We do have a car now that can win the
season championship.” Brown had moved into second before falling back
as the caution free race progressed. Adam Bendzick moved into second on
the fourth circuit but had no challenge for Bieber. Kevin Lutz followed
a heat win with a strong third place feature finish followed by Josh Larsen
and Justin Neisius.
With an extremely tight points race in the Coca-Cola Thunder Cars division,
Matt Carlander knew that the easiest way to the mid-season championship would
be to win the Jack Daniel’s 25. And after battling a determined Kevin
Turek for most of the yellow free race, Carlander was able to win both
honors. Turek gave up his second spot to Kris Morlean on the 6th lap but
got back around to second just three laps later for his season best
finish. Morlean would settle for third followed by Brent Kane and Adam
Wolfe.
Jeff Partington had the mid-season championship wrapped up before the start of
the ACDelco Power Stocks Charter Media 20. The veteran moved through the
field but didn’t have a challenge for feature winner Matt Ryan. Ryan
took the lead on the sixth lap, one lap after the races only caution, and
never looked back in showing a dominant performance. “We finally got a
great starting spot and I was able to show what this car is all about,” said
a happy Ryan from victory lane. Ryan announced plans to sign autographs
on Monday night following the Budweiser Race Review from 6pm until 7pm at
Benchwarmer Bob’s in Burnsville. Dustin Tuma was able to hold on to
second with Partington settling for third followed by Nick Crawford and Heath
Herman.
Racing will take a week off at Elko Speedway with the track hosting Clint
Black, LONESTAR, Rockie and The Daisy Dillman Band on Saturday, July
23rd. Tickets for the concert are available by calling the speedway at
952-461-7223 between 9am and 7pm Monday through Friday. Racing will
resume on Saturday July 30th as Lehman’s presents a full slate of NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series action with the addition of the fast and frisky Hornets.
